We are heading for a 4th wave, no doubt

Both new infections and deaths are slowly going up

When schools go back this will further increase totals
Many people's immunity from being jabbed, is also waining, as we knew it would, with plans only to give 1% a booster jab, leaving 99% with little or no immunity .

In my opinion, there will start to be restrictions during November, and possibly a lockdown before or just after the new year.

We have to hope too, that this virus doesn't mutate into a really deadly strain, or we will be in real trouble
The government's handling has been abysmal.... No wonder they don't want a enquiry.

Having said that , the latest views are that herd immunity is not achievable with the Delta variant and that everyone will come into contact with this variant before the end of the year. So it is vital that everyone is vaccinated.

Cos last week I think the daily totals were a lot lower.

The numbers are correct, though somewhat skewed by the Bank Holiday last Monday when I guess the people who process the tests were on holiday and therefore not processing tests.

If Bank Holiday Monday (~26k) had showed as many positive test cases as today's (~42k) it would have shown about a 7% increase this week over last instead of the reported 0.4%.

No justification for further another lockdown whilst hospitalisations and deaths remain low compared to how they were previously. The number of daily cases is largely irrelevant except when the BBC and others find another way to alarm people - most recently by picking a period when cases were very low (last August) and saying how much worse things are now than they were a year ago.

Apart from New Cases, Critical bed numbers have also been rising steadily for a while now. Sure they are lower than peak numbers but it shows a declining situation which needs to be reversed or we could be facing a new crisis where lockdown will return.

There will be no lockdown and there is talk now of ending testing and replacing it with clinical testing only. Lockdown will achieve nothing. The virus is showing no signs of disappearing. Therefore, is all we can do is protect ourselves by vaccination.

Corona Virus hotspots could literally be anywhere - couldn't they? Indeed, you may well be coming back from Lanzarote; sitting next to someone who has just also visted Northern Italy, China, etc. So, in effect, what you are suggesting is that every person coming through an airport (or port) is checked for Corona Virus. How would that work exactly?

Where would the required medical staff come from?

Where would this process be undertaken?

Given that (currently) test results take around 72 hours, where would people be asked to stay in the interim?

How would the NHS manage to test the potential thousands of additional samples each day?

If one person is found to have Corona Virus, is everyone else on that particular flight, the various airports they've transited, the hotel(s) they've stayed at, etc. be contacted and advised to self-isolate (even if they are feeling fine)?

In the words of Captain Mainwaring......"I think you're bordering on the realms of fantasy".

Not particularly picking on NuneatonOs post because it is unfair to pick on anything posted a while back (February 2020) but the answers to the questions posed above, to most of us were unimaginable and borderline fantasy as the last paragraph mentioned.

But reading the first ten or twenty pages of this thread is amazing and worth preserving for years to come. How the tone changes throughout right up until now when we speak freely and openly about things like Vaccine Passports, AstraZeneca, Moderna.

Covid wasn't even mentioned in the early part as it was Corona.

Other things mentioned such as Keyworkers, NHS heroes, Double Jabbed status, furlough has been and gone, Barnard Castle, lockdowns. Most of those were just fantasy talk.

None of us would have thought that 18 months down the line we wouldn't have had to have had just one jab, but two to go about our business. And a jab of what? 18 months ago we had no jab. No Pfizer, no blood clots, no idea about any of it.

It's also amazing how we've all coped. Some better than others. Some have lost more than others. Some businesses have never been in better shape, loads have gone to the wall.

Hadn't really thought back about the 18 months until I started clicking through this thread.
