No doubting what a horrible virus this is but it just strikes me that although the vaccines are in most part doing there job our case rates seem to be growing exponentially compared with other parts of Europe.
Purely down to the higher transmissibility of the delta variant. It will take a hold in Europe soon enough, it's just that it arrived here earlier. France, for example, is predicting a new wave in Sept/Oct.

The numbers that matter most right now are deaths and hospitalisations and we're on a par with most European countries on those figures.

Case numbers and Critical beds took a bit of a hike upwards today. Increases in deaths has always followed behind any increase in Critical bed occupation. Here's hoping that isn't the case this time but it demonstrates that we still need to take precautions, and that should probably continue past the 19th July. Good luck everyone.

Seems as though my previous posts about travel to and from India by 40,000 selfish , irresponsible, folk who choose to ignore the advice has returned to bite , as I said it would at the time.
Those few travellers who decided that sensible rules don’t apply to them have brought the whole of Europe to its knees again. Well done to them

And therein lies the issue with Boris trusting people to behave responsibly!

Age, jabbed or not?

Saw a map that indicated higher infections up north.

I believe mostly people in their twenties. Some have been double jabbed. Seems to be quite difficult to get sensible data.

The NHS may struggle to cope because there are 75,000 less beds than there were in 2000. The fault of government’s left and right

There's hasn't been a "left" one in that time. HTH

No, it’s a fault of governments right.

Plus there's been an exodus of experienced nursing staff due to the stress and indifference to their situation/pay by the Government and, really disappointingly, the public.

Not really.

The massive drops have occurred, unsurprisingly, under Tory governments.

But you know that.

In 2000 there were 240,144 beds, in 2010 there were 183,849. I believe there was a Labour government then

Where are those figures from?

A quick google provides these numbers:

1987 - 300k beds

1997 - 195k beds

2007 - 180k beds

2020 - 140k beds

Looking at your numbers the frightening thing is that beds have halved in 30 years while the population has grown. That is criminal

Agree, but Labour are not blameless. They had over 10 years to reverse the cuts but choose to carry them on.

Cases climbing to circa 50,000 a day now

Deaths now at 63 a day, imagine given the lag, it'll rise to 100 before long

My 69 year old father got it ten days ago but is thankfully over the worst (hopefully)

Bit misleading though - treatments have changed and it’s no good for anyone to be laid up in a hospital bed longer than necessary. Would prefer the measure of available hospital beds; if there is one. I’ll ask the Wife - she does something in the hospital. 🤔
