Spot on. Now for Lancs at home.

4 days in the sunshine, I hope, to top up the tan, sod skin cancer again (I've had both malignant and non-malignant), I like sitting in the sun. Members booze-up (sorry lunch) on the Friday of the game.

One swallow doesn't make a summer.Good win by Essex over my lot.
Although they outplayed middlesex from day one with magnificent bowling I'm afraid the batting is very ordinary

Have to agree - with first batting point now 250 Essex could struggle. Winning more games than anyone else might not be enough to be champions.

Not setting the county season alight so far, but they have lost a complete match time of 4 days to weather, that doesn't help. T20 starting soon, fingers crossed for that.

Championship season looking dismal. Once again the top batters aren't producing the runs, leaving the bowlers to have to do an awful lot. The game against Surrey was a point in case. A very poor first innings and some horrible dismissals in the second left us 50 - 70 runs short of beating Surrey. Browne seems to have become inconsistent, Cook hasn't scored many and Lawrence seems to have worked hard over the winter in the art of giving away his wicket. Snater wants to score 50 in 10 balls and oppo seems to feel the best way to play Harmer on these early season wickets is to have a go.
Roll on T 20 and 50!

Struggling to get anything out of this game. No strength in depth with the batting( yet another year), really can't understand why we haven't addressed the batting side, bowling attack is generally fine. Once we lose Chef, Lawrence and Westley we're really struggling.

Looking worse already and it's not even lunch. We'll need good innings from Sir Chef, Lawrence and Westley in our second innings.

Probably on twice as much as Essex can afford but not the loss it once would have been he’s not really done much for Essex for two seasons. So nothing really changes Essex need to recruit two top batters to have any chance of being competitive.

After scoring over 500 to win this week, surprised they need yet another batter. Like Dan but he hasn't done much for the past 2 seasons.

Despite that our batting has been unconvincing for some time, we need an opener to replace the awful Browne and big Chef won’t go on much longer. Critchley has stepped up this season but our batting gives me the jitters.

We have a reputation for a 'brittle' top order and it's hard to many of the youngsters coming through as top order in the red ball game.

Back to the T20 at Chelmsford tonight. I just hope it's a bit warmer than the first 3 home matches. I was wearing my Os bobble hat and gloves by the end of those matches, as well as 2 woolies and a coat. Effing cold.

He wants to get a more permanent place in the England set-up, IMO, which equates to more money and probably believes this is the way to do it. Quite a few have done it over the years; Barry Knight in the 60's, Nick Knight, Tymal Mills and Reece Topley in recent year, to name a few. Essex is still looked upon as a "little" county by a section of the cricket establishment. Snobbery still exists in cricket. Sam Cook should be in the England set-up, if he played for Yorkshire or Surrey, he would be IMO.

Poor performance tonight from our bowlers, serving up too many donkey drops as they did against Hampshire. Robin Das batted well, I was just thinking he might get his maiden T20 century when he holes out. Zummerzet are a good T20 side.

Thrown away our chances of qualifying for the quarter finals, last two games have been awful. Last night against Hampshire we went from 154-1 to 209 all out!!
