I haven't seen any figures, but I have a hunch that smoking is much more acceptable in France and Italy than in UK. There has been reports on UK TV that the effects of the virus is worse for smokers

Other Countries have declared a state of Emergency or a state of War which enables them to take immediate actions.
Interesting, so you support enacting the provisions within the Civil Contingencies Act to give Boris carte blanche to amend legislation at a whim? Without consulting parliament or opposition.
Haha - in the circumstances we now face do you believe that debating policy in Parliament and thus delaying actions by weeks is the correct option?
Is that a yes then?

Local was open tonight (and will hopefully remain so).

Quite busy for a Wednesday night; particularly with 'oldies' playing in the Women's 5 & 3's domino cup.

Banter was generally 'what a load of bol!ocks, nothing is stopping me coming out/getting on with my life'.

Whilst I miss many things from East London, the earthy, couldn't basically give a toss, whatever happens happens attitude of Midlanders, most certainly isn't one of them.

What people seem to loose sight of, is that the day to day need for Intensive unit beds, respirators and general ward space is still required. People fall seriously ill of other things besides Coronavirus, they have accidents etc. So these inconsiderate gits who still like to socialise with their mates down the pub, and have an " it's only a cold " attitude, can catch the virus and end up using a ward space, ITU bed or a respirator somewhat unnecessarily. Especially if a smoker or very overweight. Are you being so brave and clever doing all this social interacting? My friend still doesn't see that it is irresponsible having her mum & dad to Mother's Day lunch ( they are in their 70's & 80's ).

It is clear that Johnson and Williamson had their hand forced on school closures after Wales and Scotland made their decision.

Coincidentally, this ‘forced hand’ situation is the same defence Alex Salmond is using in his current trial.

Yes I agree with WSS.Its not all about me.I don't want to infect other people if there is a chance of me having it...and there is as I'm still working and mixing with work colleagues.I am not sure how it's going to go with public transport which obviously helps in spreading the virus.Luckily for me I can manage without using the tube for my commute.

At the end of the fifth consecutive 14 hour day going into work (where incidentally, there are considerably more people than in the pub); in order to get many scared, older people home safely from NZ and Australia, this 'inconsiderate git' fancied a pint. And a$$holes such as you aren't going to stop me, OK?

I'm surprised you are getting a wi-fi signal in your nuclear fallout shelter anyway.

Although I'm no admirer of Alex Salmond, I suggest that you read Craig Murray's website for a daily overview of this particular case; rather than simply believe the biased, lying media hatchet job.

NuneatonO's :- Let me tell you of an amazing scientific breakthrough. Entrepreneurs have managed to bottle and can ale. You have obviously heard of the internet as you seem to be needing it.Using your internet device, you can order supplies to be delivered to to your home. You can then drink a pint in the comfort of your own armchair. As a word of caution, if you feel the need for the reassurance of boozing in the company of others, This could be a symptom of alcohol dependence. Go away, read up on viruses and Coronaviruses also Polio. You will find that many people can get them and have no symptoms ( never showing any symptoms ) but still pass the virus on. Some poor buggers will be killed by this rotten thing. Stop being an anti-social tw*t. Please don't be so abusive to a 72 year old who had a cardiac arrest 18 months ago and will be at great risk if I catch the virus. Please be more informed before being so rude!

Most of these people 'in the pub' are not going to change their behaviour until someone close to them suffers, unfortunately.

Yup. There was a report yesterday about Brits out on the p*ss in Benidorm who were told by Spanish police to go back to their hotel and who refused as their attitude was "it's only the flu - what's all the fuss about" etc etc. Regrettably the Spanish coppers didn't nick them but just left the tossers to it.

If we really want to stop socialising though we need to close pubs and then consider a complete lockdown. When you leave it up to Joe public to decide what's best you're always going to get the "carry on as normal" brigade. That might have been great during the Blitz but not so much for a viral outbreak.

Yeah, there’s still too many Brits not showing enough social responsibility over this yet: whether that’s ridiculous panic buying at the supermarkets or avoiding non-essential trips to venues and spaces like pubs. It’s an “I’m alright, Jack” attitude by some that the Govts half-cocked requests to curb & avoid usual behaviour hasn’t cut through to yet. Expect enforced lockdowns imminently, with squaddies assisting the police to enforce it.
