I like the idea of this track and trace. I have friends in Oz and they’ve told me how successful its been over there.

Think our economic contraction and death rates are both more double than that of Germany's.

Still, mustn't grumble.

Difficult to understand Germany’s figures compared with the rest of Europe. You would expect them to be similar to countries around them.

I am not sure you can compare one country with another. I suspect that the UK has a better care system than those countries you mention. A population that lives longer. Perhaps we have a higher percentage of aged whom are more likely to die.
There are so many differences.

On the GDP comparisons, I remember hearing something on the BBC's More or Less about the difference in how this metric is measured by different countries. The upshot is that the UK is using more reliable data so, if other countries were to do the same, their economic contraction would be in the same region as ours.

But the total number of deaths, and deaths per 100,000, figures are undeniably bad. And the latest wave of deaths can be attributed to the government's delay of implementing what was an inevitable lock-down.

And you may see some passengers wearing their exemption badge

Russia 146 million population :- 72,000 covid deaths

A very valid one because, of course , the 2 European countries are only just feeling the effects of the new variant , so they are lagging behind , America are on their own having had very few restrictions, and do you seriously believe Russia’s figures

Do you even know that all countries are reporting deaths in the same way. Excess deaths in Russia suggest well over 100,000 so far.

And all of the countries you mention are much bigger than the UK and not so tightly populated

The fact is that by the end of this , all western countries will have similar figures.
And France and Spain haven’t dealt with it better. Restaurants and bars have remained open in Spain. They announced 60k plus infections yesterday

I have a house in Spain I can’t visit. I know the figures and how they have dealt with it.
Tuffers , I am not defending the UK’s policies. I am simply saying that it is difficult to compare different countries. Every country has done it differently. But I doubt comparative figures , come the end of this , will vary hugely.
