She's certainly playing to a certain gallery on the Tory right, but I doubt her sincerity. I too take some delight at the wailing from the identarian left. But she's not a serious contender for the role of PM yet. At some point in this contest she'll no doubt trade in her support for a cabinet position.

Spot on!

She’s my MP and is seen here less frequently than Elvis.

IF (ha,ha,ha) she was PM she would lose her seat at the next GE, despite a healthy Tory majority (which she inherited in 2017 from Sir Alan Haslehurst) and I’d soil my underwear laughing.

She cares not one jot about her constituency, only her own deluded self belief.

So .... Johnson refused Labour's request for a Vote of Confidence, even though this is an entitlement for the opposition. He objected that the wording of the motion mentioned him by name, claiming that this is 'playing politics'. However, the wording had been approved by the HoC clerks and there is a precedent when a former Labour PM was subject to such motion.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... -in-itself

He now has agreed a general VoC into his government and of course all the Tory MPs will vote in favour of themselves. It leaves Johnson with the feeling that they really love him and their action last week was just an aberration.

According to Wiki his paternal grandfather was an Austrian Jewish immigrant. The word 'Tugend' in German means virtue.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Tugendhat

He sounds more sane than all the other candidates and has dual nationality (French & UK) which presumably means that Tory membership wont vote for him.

Good news that the initial results show it's pretty clear they won't elect a white guy, again.

Maybe if the white males want to get ahead they should join the Labour Party

Looking at the first round results, although on the face of it Truss didn't do too well, she will eventually pick up Badenoch and Braverman votes which will put her well beyond the 119 needed to get into the final two. Sunak only needs 31 more, so I can see Mourdant getting squeezed out. As Truss was well ahead in todays head to head poll against Sunak by Tory members, a Truss premiership could be the outcome.

Labour would love this as Truss is crap at public speaking, not bright and has gone from being in the Liberal Party to being on the right of the Conservative Party. She moves anyway to move up but will be found out in spades if she wins.

One caveat, never trust Tory member polls, the old biddies change their minds alot.

Correct. Labour will win the next election against either of those. Both are Tory wets which would mean the 10-15% of the ex UKIP vote would stay at home/ some voting Labour. Mourdant voted for Theresa May’s awful brexit deal 3 times. Kemi Badonoch would be the one that would give Labour hell. If nothing else the WUM value by voting in a right of right black girl to stand in front of a Labour front bench is worth the trip to the polling station alone. Sadly, Truss will not back down to her or Braverman so the right vote will be split.

What is she standing for other than sticking it to the lefties? Is that really the best the Tories can do after being in charge for 12 years? Government by trolling?

Braverman is a loon, Truss unbelievably mediocre. Mourdant is the worrying one if you want the Tories out. I imagine she has all kinds of terrible flaws like May turned out to, but she's hidden them very well by never doing a senior cabinet job and sounding vaguely plausible.

I just think that yer typical voter will struggle to see any difference between her and Starmer. So why vote for the unknown, when you can stick with the familiar and get that hair thrown in for good measure too?

Truss hoovering up votes from the right, ERG 60 members being asked to get behind her now. Just needs to hope she is in a strong enough position before the final three vote, so she can help Sunak get into the final two. If she doesn't, then Mourdant wins the membership vote against whoever else is in the final two.

Truss would be the continuity Johnson: both are shallow in terms of vision for the country. For both of them the job is mainly about their ego and photo opportunities. Truss would be the easiest to manipulate by those who hold the real power behind the Tories.

The last three will be Sunak, Mordaunt and Truss, unless any of them screw up badly in the TV debates. Sunak is pretty much nailed on to make the last two so far as I can see.

At that point, "politics" may come into play by Sunak backers in terms of who supports who, to ensure he faces Truss in the run-off, which will be perceived as the slightly easier route for him to no. 10.

In spite of that, the next leader of the Tories and PM will be a woman.

Nice hair or not, Mordaunt doesn't like Dad's Army or The Dambusters and describes "It Ain't Half Hot Mum" as "a full-house bingo card of… casual racism, homophobia, white privilege, colonialism, transphobia, bullying, misogyny and sexual harassment" and she should be ruled out on that basis.

Interesting that the Mail this morning gave Mourdant a right mauling. Is their preferred patsy Truss?
