Like David ‘Lord’ Cameron’s elevation last year?

As I’ve said, it happens.

But has it ever happened to this extent?

I don't know. Not that I'm aware of, although it may have been more of a thing in the olden days.

I'm not that fussed really, as when MPs get cabinet positions you tend to find that their constituency works takes a back seat. And that's some of the most important work an MP does.

I'd rather someone knowledgeable in their field do the job than an MP.

I’m not sure sticking new heels on shoes makes you a prison expert.

I remember the understandable outrage when Boris gave peerages to zac goldsmith and that to make them ministers. I haven’t heard any reaction to this. It’s bizarre.

It's not so long since Starmer was part of the principled move for constituencies to select their parliamentary candidates.
Then he became leader of the party.
For the 2024 General Election: I wonder how many of the Labour candidates were actually the choice of their CLP?
Hearing one of the newby Labour MPs today, was she even a LP member before this election?

One miscalculation by Starmer's election guru: the plan to impose a Starmer approved candidate backfired. The truly local Labour candidate stood as Independent and with that competition the Starmer approved candidate failed. Ian Duncan Smith probably is having a chuckle at this turn of events. It keeps him on the gravy train.

Only been in a few days and already Angela Rayner has done away with Levelling Up. :(((

What's the matters? I'd have thought Levelling Down would have been a winner with you.

Does anyone think they'll actually do anything for ordinary working class people?

That’s the thing about having a 174 seat majority

Scathing attacks on the Orient messageboard and dunking on ministers on Twitter doesn’t have the cut through it used to have :(

I wonder how much the voter ID (suppression tactics) had on that chart. Presume the proportion of those without adequate ID in more deprived areas would be higher (which was kind of the point, eh?)

If someone cant (or won't) come up with just one document with their photo on it then you have to question if they're who they claim to be

I'm not sure if there is any solid data on it yet, but it would be interesting to find out. It would be ironic if a rule introduced by the Tories to give them an advantage backfired and boosted Labour's chances though.

This article has appeared in a few different newspapers though and, based upon a poll, suggests c4,000 people were prevented from voting: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/ar ... l-suggests

^If this is broadly correct, this could equate to c600 voters per constituency (not including NI) turned away because of no ID. 20 MPs were elected with majorities of under 500, so it could have meant more independents and Reform MPs.

I'll wait for the stats but I'd guess Reform had a much bigger impact on that chart than voter ID.

Sunak played a blinder, had he waited till later Farage would have been working for Trump & Rishi would of been stuck with his PMship. July allowed Farage to force a Tory defeat. Rishi can start making proper money again
