I was at Lord's for the 1983 Benson & Hedges final against Middx. They batted first and were bowled out for less than 200. Essex were cruising - then the collapse.

131 for 8. An appalling batting display. What is it with Essex and 1st innings scores?

Lawrence won't be batting 2nd innings and already a wicket down. Losing with dignity is the best from this debacle.

Why won't Lawrence be batting in the second innings?

Side strain according to Beeb website. They couldn't get it scanned yesterday as the local hospitals were full. McGrath said he'll bat only if needed.

Glad to hear it could only be a side strain. Streaming commentators have been calling it a ham string injury.

No batting points since the first match. Those points could be the difference between winning the championship or not being relegated. The captain's one of the worst culprits.

A century for Sir Chef and 89 not out from Paul Walter. Looking forward to the collapse in the first session tomorrow.

Well done to Walter and Sam Cook. Wonderful to see Essex posting a good first innings score and getting some batting points.
