That has always been the problem with the stranglehold of the two main political party’s . The idea that if you vote for a third party your main political adversary will be allowed in has kept the status quo . It’s incredibly difficult for a smaller party to break into parliament . Even the Greens could only muster one MP in all the time they have been around

Maybe it's time we thought about changing the system to better represent what the people want?

When a real proper right winger like Elphicke feels comfortable in the Labour Party, it shows that the Labour party is a right wing party now.

When decent socialists can't be in the Labour party, but a right wing Tory can, it tells you exactly where Labour is.

I warned everyone, when Starmer was elected leader, he would hijack the party and turn it into a right wing party.

I wouldn't expect too much from that venture - most of the *checks Dunnem file* purple-haired, soup-throwing, motorway-gluing, pronoun-defying, loony left, cranks, tankies, yoghurt-knitting, purple-haired, perma-protest and other rag-tag mis-fit weirdos don't have much spare dosh to throw about, being the unemployable layabouts they are.

(At least until those with trust-funds get their hands on daddy's money, but they will of course have grown up by the time that happens).

I voted in favour of it but seemed like many people at the time were not that interested in the idea, also not many people understood how the ''Alternative vote system'' worked. It was not the full proportional representational vote but more representative than the first past the post system !
The referendum concerned whether to replace the present "first-past-the-post" system with the "alternative vote" (AV) method and was the first national referendum to be held across the whole of the United Kingdom in the twenty-first century. The proposal to introduce AV was rejected by 67.9% of voters on a national turnout of 42%.
