Sounds like a key club strategy.
Unfortunately this club never learn so I think. You may be right but I hope I am proved wrong with great signings by the end of the day on Monday.
When did we sign Alabi last year?

bobo66 wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2019 10:13 am I like Dayton and hope he signs a new deal. I'm not sure, though, how much will he be able to play this season. At the celebrations at the end of last season, when he was on crutches, it looked like he would be out until at least Christmas.

Does anyone know the prognosis?
That's the worry with signing him given the club don't exactly seem to be falling over themselves to get numbers in. Basically means relying solely on JMD and we're back to having a paper thin squad in a key area (also bear in mind no more get out of jail free card playing Koroma there as we did last season).

It's one of those where emotion seems to be playing a part in the decision to offer a new contract. Quality player when fit and probably a good egg in the camp but it's a luxury to sign someone who might only play half a season if we're lucky.
You really need to stop whining about the size of the squad until we've concluded our summer signings.

As for Dayton, it was Edinburgh who extended a contract offer to him so there was clearly some loyalty there to a player who contributed to our promotion. We don't know how long until he plays again but he is in training. So I see no harm with him staying on a one year deal where we can probably shift him to another team mid season if he's not playing much.

It’s gonna be like a London bus, you don’t see any then three come along at once.

Think Dayton is our worst option in the #10 role (fourth after JMD, Brophy and McAnuff); not sure we need him unless we’re going to revert to 4-4-2. He’s never really cut it in League Two either, so I’m not too fussed whether he signs or doesn’t.

Plus with Dayton's present injury and his injury record since he has been with us, smacks to me of a sentimental decision to give him perhaps a one year contract as a reward for helping to get us promoted, but can we afford to give players contracts for those reasons and nothing much else ?
A two year contract would be somewhat of a strange decision !! Next season its going to be a fight to cement our place in Division 2, anything other than staying away from the relegation zone will for me be a bonus, selling Koroma and Bonne our best two forwards has been a real knock back, ok seems like we did not have much choice other than to let those two go. but if they had stayed, then promotion ''Might'' just have happened !
Of course could still happen but does not seem so likely does it ?
