I'm not going to wet my pants that other teams have signed forwards who happened to score today. Especially as the suggestion is that that's the barometer that determines the quality of players that those teams have signed. Our priority for improvement is not a forward when we have Drinan and Smith both in double figures. We should be bringing in significant upgrades at positions of need first, starting in midfield, and not clogging up the wage bill with whoever is available just for the sake of it. It's clearly preferable to wait and sign genuine quality than panic, sign someone now and have to deal with the consequences for the rest of the season and possibly next too if they don't offer anything better than what we have but they're taking up budget.
We do need new players but I'm content to wait for us to sign the best player available (or close to it) that wants to come here, fits into our budget and is a genuine improvement rather than just react to whatever is available at the start of the window. That's because I understand that things change throughout the transfer window and players become available throughout the month. I'd like us to improve at the earliest feasible opportunity but it's not a game of musical chairs where we need to react the second the music stops. While we need more depth, the best solution to that is to sign players in positions of need who turn existing starters into depth players first and then worry about squad filler elsewhere.
We have brought in players every January window since Travis/Teague/Ling came along and this window will be no different.
Another Chris Dagnall or Paul Connor would be very nice.
And I'll trust in the management team to bring in what they think is best and (I hope I'm not being a Jonah here) as Lincoln haven't asked for Theo back at this moment in time, I hope that the comments on this board that he was going to be recalled are proven wrong.
