Southend to be given City status. That'll give a few Tory voters on here cognitive dissonance.
So a change of name perhaps to Southend City FC ?

They’ll need to build a cathedral first, which I suppose is more likely than Southend ever building a new stadium.

Reposting this from the Tory Watch thread, since this now has its own topic.
He is (sadly now, was) MP for the next constituency along from me, some years ago he held a couple of tea parties in successive years to try and break a world record of the number of centenarians in one place. My Great Aunt was one of those, and when she died a couple of years later he took the time to come along to her stone setting. I've always remembered that, and how respectful he was at the cemetery. RIP.
EDIT - After looking it up, it transpires he carried on hosting those centenarian tea parties every year.

Does a town need a cathedral to become a city?
City Status NO. All UK towns (through their local council) can apply to become a city, whether they have an Anglican cathedral or not. There are 18 cities without a cathedral and 13 towns which have an Anglican cathedral but do not have city status.

Also.... How is Brighton a City without a Cathedral?
It’s a common myth that a city must have a cathedral in order to be a city. In fact, “city status” is conferred by the queen. It has nothing to do with whether a city has a cathedral or not.

Unlikely, since they aren't Southend Town now.

Remember when Corbyn said he wanted a less abusive way of doing politics. And the commentariat class ridiculed him for it, and then spent the next four years relentlessly abusing, smearing and insulting him.
Well now they're all saying they want a 'kinder, gentler politics'! Corbyn on the money as always.

So true!
Maybe Starmer will now show Corbyn the respect he deserves and re-instate him as Labour MP with big apologies ?

What took them so long? Was it just down to the usual police inefficiency ?

So sadly predictable that the narrative since it started looking like it was Islamic terrorist linked has been to talk about other stuff like faceless nobs on Twitter
Had it been politically motivated in any other way the suspects background would be scrutinised and the debate would be about how to stop a reoccurrence
Seems it just gets pigeonholed in the "too complicated" box and there's a collective shrug

Better than him getting off in some technicality due to an investigative cockup. They had a given time frame. No need to panic, use the time available to do the best job they could. Not complex unless you are a simpleton. Oh, sorry, Hi Max, my mistake.
