Cash Converters has had to settle class actions against them for taking advantage of vulnerable people. I am a huge supporter of the current leadership of the Club but this decision stinks.

Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: Sat Sep 11, 2021 8:28 am I don’t see any issue with trying to get as much money in as possible. If you can find someone to sponsor something, go for it.

But yeah, obviously this was a bad choice of firm to ‘partner’ with. However, in prepared to reconsider if they announce a 20% discount in their stores for season ticket holders.
Agree with this. The wording of a stand doesn’t bother me, it’s the choice of company.

This comes AFTER we got more investment and ask the fans to donate money to the club and separately to the academy. Still, no-one question the board because they’re transparent and aren’t the Italian.

Still not as bad as all the poker firms under Hearn, or The Sun the other year.

yes indeed.
The club needs income and quite honestly sponsorship is vital to a well run club. If you are so concerned about this how much will you be prepared to pay, or better still, raise.
Team doing well, crowds returning, goals being scored what more do you want? Remember where we were before Nigel and Kent came on board and then ask Oldham fans what they’d prefer sponsorship or bankruptcy

Whooaa!! Hold your horses here pal, read most of the posts above. They are against this type of firm holding a partnership with our club.
Of course sponsorship is vital in any sports related business, but to sell your soul to the devil for a few bob, nahh.

I’m happy for you to have an opinion, I just think it’s a very silly one.

It’s a false equivalence that because the owners aren’t as bad as the mad Italians that nothing they do can be questioned.

Would you be comfortable with the new ‘National Front North Stand’? As long as they stumped up enough cash and it was agreed by Nigel and kent?

(P.s I know some of you would be fine with it)

Disagree. Dream team was a fun sponsor that helped raise the profile of the club while we were in the National League.
There's something not right about the club selling itself out for this company, like others did with Wonga.

You get why it's been done though.

Maximum amount of money and the only repercussion is a few dozen people grumbling online. Nobody is seriously gonna stop going because of this though.

Now that's a different idea, I got no complaints about that, anything that would send the loony left into meltdown. such fun.

I really do not understand the high emotions on this thread. The sponsors are not immoral in what they do (no more so that a building maintenance business looking after local housing stock) and they have committed financially to the club. I don't ever remember saying, or hearing the stand referred to as the Tommy Johnston stand by another fan in the same way I don't hear the ground called the Breyer group stadium. Whomever sponsors it, I will continue to sit in the south stand at Brisbane Road and be happy that someone is senseless enough to cough up some cash in an attempt to try and change its name.

I'm broadly supportive of how our club is run but this is a poor decision.

I imagine Cash Converters would also defend themselves by saying they are a legitimate employer, that pays taxes and rates.

However at worst, there's the issue of handling stolen goods, and turning a blind eye to things that are "a bit iffy", as they no doubt view it.

At best, you'd have to say on some levels they exploit the poor (as all pawn-brokers do), by giving people rock-bottom prices for their goods, and then asking them for more if they want to "buy them back".
They operate on the same principles as pay-day lenders: 'helping' people who are at rock-bottom to to either stay there, or relieve them of what little they still have.

I get we (Orient) will always need money, but this is a bit grubby.

Another even sillier response. How can you compare the National Front with a legally trading company. Your comment is an insult to our owners and management and find it very hard to believe that any O’s fans would support the National Front and their abhorrent views.

The club paint themselves to be a club for the community. Where a week ago, this was on the website https://www.leytonorient.com/2021/09/03 ... g-the-hub/. Donating to local food banks that feed the poor. Those same families who need the help from food banks are the ones most often the people who are forced to sell their possesions for a disgustingly knocked down rate. The APR on their pawnbroking is 155.8%.

Still, as long as we’re all transparent and not the Italian.

It's a bit of a seedy business, but so are a fair number of businesses. Cash converters is a place of last resort for many, for sure, but its not the company but the social and economic system that forces people to sell their possessions.
