Managing in L2 is a young mans game.
Almost 100% of promoted teams over the last 20 years have been managed by men under 45 and in their first job.
Can’t imagine Jackett fancies a Tuesday night in Carlisle or Exeter.
If they appoint Jackett, it could be their most expensive mistake yet.
Should have appointed Jobi with Slade as mentor.

A younger Ross was a "brilliant coach who was coaching 22 years " according to Martin
Logic on choosing this new manager exceeds all our imaginations as the KPI are being evaluated by a group of people that are being led by one person with real football knowledge Martin Ling and he is not in a winning run atm with football managers - hopefully this decision proves OK by the end of next season
All other directors know as much as us or less on football like most clubs it's only money that even gives them a voice
Slade not up to it anymore .Anthem of Hope wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 11:20 pmLing stays as DOF - he has repeatly said he nothing to do with first team tactics and selectiontuffers#1 wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 11:01 pmBetter than Jobi & Ling ?Anthem of Hope wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 10:24 pm

2005-6 League 2 season
Martin Ling LOFC 3rd promoted
Russell Slade GTFC 4th lost in play off final .
Oopsy
Jobi and Slade combined as manager / coach - assistant / whatever u want to call the mix /
They both inform Ling what type of player or name them they want to play the tactics they want and run the first team plain and simple

threatened ST refusals & he was gone .

Agents have been around for years in many industries. They are the one who keep their ear to the ground, know what’s going on, know what salary levels are and can do much of the donkey work. They have a place. Travel Agents, Estate Agents, Theatrical Agents and so on. Footballers definitely need agents. So why not managers.Anthem of Hope wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 9:06 pm Matt Porter mentions the club will be talking to the prospective managers agents as part of the recruitment process
That may be the case but one asks why would a manager need a agent
Cannot the managers under consideration just discuss their employment details direct - my god this is a football club on limited financials recruiting a manager, not actually so delicate that the two parties need to use a agent ( fees and complicating simple dialogue )
I would choose the candidate that has the substance and basic common sense to not use a agent and just speak in a simple transparent way
An agent to represent a person that will be regarded to communicate to the board / players / staff/ media - needs an agent to speak for themselves over a managers job at a community local family club when they would of been historically interviewed looking at their football cv
We have a CEO / DOF - a transfer committee and two USA based owners that spend hours on the phone in their own admission. I know the British love meetings and the Americans love titles in companies but hey other clubs of this size go about their obligations to run a club in a less overblown way a less dramatic way with less non playing staff and wages - and I am sure don't blow money on agents fees on seeking a manager
Can we get back to you on this one if BIGRON takes your advice and loses a shed load of money.Still wrong wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 8:57 pmFill your boots Ron.

Even allowing for the fact that SW is a wind up merchant, some of his nonsense is even more nonsense that his other nonsense! I made the mistake of checking his "100%" assertion from 2000 onwards and gave up when the stats were showing circa 40%. So I decided to just look at the 18/19 and 19/20 season - 25%. Well done, you snookered me into wasting 30 minutes of my life.Still wrong wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 8:26 pmAlmost 100% of promoted teams over the last 20 years have been managed by men under 45 and in their first job.ContrifibulatoryFred wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 8:13 pm Once again when presented with the opportunity to have a Rolls Royce (Jackett) the club will somehow opt for another Trabant (Calderwood)
You are absolutely right, I don’t think our owners are stupid enough to be duped by Ling and allow Calderwood to be appointed.o-no wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 12:46 pm Ling and Calderwood are firm friends. This is well known.
If Calderwood is appointed there will ALWAYS be a lingering doubt that he's got the job because of that and not because of his record. It's barely any different from the Sam Ling situation. If Nigel and Kent allow it I really will wonder about their judgement.
I can relate to that. My son lives in Perth WA. We have exactly the same conversation when talking about distance. A local gig for him could be over a 150 mile round trip. Nothing to him. The longer ones are a two day drive each way, with a sleep over en-route. Sometimes a flight.Anthem of Hope wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 1:00 pmI live in Australia - to me it's "near" - particularly as it in that region of uk to be classified as "near" football wise
