Is Ling a less effective player than Clay? I feel the person to feel most hurt is Jobi.

Gshaw. We already have a central midfield bench warmer in Cisse though. If we start next season with Clay and Cisse I will lose the will to live.

I mostly agree with the choices made.

And now we wait with bated breathe who will be the next manager and who he will want to sign. Could be exciting   or not :!:

Poundshop must be creaming his pants with this amount of released duds. I'm not far away from that myself tbh.

But can't get my head around the retention of Craig Clay, it can only be as a squad player.

ComeOnYouOs wrote: Tue May 11, 2021 5:22 pm What happens if the new manager comes in and doesn't want someone on the 'offered a contract' list, or he wants to keep someone on the 'not retained' list?
If the new manager wants someone on the released list, he can try and re-sign that player if he doesn't have a new club yet.

Regarding the first point, it's no different to a manager coming into a club and not rating one of the players under contract. It's part and parcel of the job and something all managers have to deal with.

Hopefully this has assuaged your fears.

For people on here to only complain about clay being kept on implies most of us agree . I expect most of our released players to end up back in the national league but have a gut feeling Dennis will end up at another league two club
This.

Not one of the released are being queried. And only Clay from the retained list is questionable, but can be understood depending on the terms of the deal. This is very impressive from the club and shows that we’re moving on and mean business. Now to let the coaching and other unnecessary staff go and jobs a good un.

Yeah, this is the thing - manager's come into clubs all the time with players under contract that they may not want to work with. If we'd tendered offers to everyone I'd say that was a problem, but not issue with trying to retain core assets (not including Clay in that).

Interesting that Sweeney hasn’t accepted as yet. Wonder what he’s thinking?

Hopefully any new manager worth his salt will get more out of these two . If he can’t they will be off to Bocco island

I am quite happy with the list. It should be possible to replace most of these 11 players. Hopefully 3 or 4 of them will be better.

Be interesting to see what we do with LB. get the feeling from releasing Widdowson, we will tag team Ogie (who will also be CB cover) and sweeney. Which I quite like the thought of. It’s a cheap option so hopefully will allow us to spend elsewhere.

Ogie is still young. Maybe they will give him (or Sweeney) another year in the National League.

I think ‘cheap’ may we’ll be something we have to get used to over the next few months...

Sam Sargeant - didn't know he was under contract
Ruel Sotiriou - got lucky wangling a contract pre-season. candidate for being released based on this seasons form

Released
Lee Angol - right decision
Louis Dennis - right decision
Myles Judd - no surprise
Sam Ling - surprised and hope he gets a gig at National League level
Jamie Turley - right decision
Joe Widdowson - if our aim is to go into next season with players capable of playing at L1 level, this is the right decision. wish him well

Offered new contract
Craig Clay - surprised, expect him to bite their hand off
Dan Happe - hope he signs. Thompson will make him a better player
Danny Johnson - will he, won't he
Jayden Sweeney - another who will sign. has so much potential but needs a manager who will give him a chance
Lawrence Vigouroux - might get snapped up by a L1 side
Conor Wilkinson - would like to play in L1 but his tapes don't look as good as he probably thinks they do
What about JMD? I thought he should have been given another chance. He did well at Crawley and they seem keen on getting him.

Also Turley was a bit of a surprise, i thought he was one of the rare success stories regarding our shambles of a defence.

Now if Happe doesn’t resign we could have a spot of bother regarding a decent centre back pairing. Should have offered Turley one more year.

The rest are all fine with me, shame it never worked out for Angol, thought he was going to do well here.

1. I know he's under contract but why is Kemp not on the under contract list.

2. Very surprised at all the negativity towards Clay. Looks like everyone jumped off the Ling bandwagon now he's going and jumped straight on Clay's one. If we are going to get out of this league then we need more tempo and higher up the park. Clay tends to be the spark for dragging us up the field. He's not the whole answer, but can be part of the solution - hence the offer.

I note that Shadrach has only been on the bench for Aldershot's last few matches.

If he was actually any good I would be minded to concur with your hypothesis.

1) He is on the list.

2) It's just people being overly picky. I think you're over-egging his contribution somewhat but as a squad player, yeah I'll accept that.

Would I have renewed Clays contract, probably not. But I do remember he was player of the season when we won the national league. I also know that although limited he puts a shift in. I have no doubt he will look a better player in a better team.
