Everything that is targeted at driving is seen as the milking of a cash cow.
Who, especially women, feels 100% safe when travelling on public transport and it is a scenario that gets increasingly worse as you move further in to the evening hours.
There is a human and financial cost to that pollution. Why shouldn't drivers pay to deal with it's consequences?

For example the streets I grew up on had houses that contained 1 family and as a result more often than not 1 car per household.
These have since been sub divided in to flats thus doubling, or in some cases trebling the number of homes and cars accordingly.
New housing is also regularly being built on green spaces that is removing areas where kids could previously play.
