Yes Scotland board member Colin Fox issued the following statement on behalf of the party.
“Scotland is today at a turning point in our history. The campaign for a second referendum on Independence is about to get under way and we will soon be asked to choose between two hugely contrasting futures.
“The Scottish Socialist Party therefore reiterates our commitment to an independent socialist Scotland, a modern democratic republic. Our message to Scotland’s working class majority is that you will be economically, socially and politically better off with Independence and we urge you to vote for it.
Supporting Scotland’s democratic right to self-determination does not make you a nationalist, it makes you a democrat. The SSP are not nationalists. We are socialists who support self-determination.
“Independence for us is not an end in itself, it is a route towards significant advance, to a transformation in the lives of five million people. We will get the chance to build the kind of country we want, one that is egalitarian and leaves no one behind in poverty and neglect. One with full employment and job security on dignified wages.
One without a chronic shortage of affordable housing or inefficient, privatised public services. One that is democratic, enterprising, internationalist, peaceable and compassionate.
“This is clearly not the ‘direction of travel’ of the British State today.
“No one yet knows when that second vote will be. But we agree in principle that the decision should be taken by the democratically elected Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
“Whilst we have many differences with the SNP, most notably on economic policy and the role of the European Union [we voted to Remain but only as the lesser of two evils] and on austerity [where we oppose cuts to public services regardless of who makes them – Tories, Labour or SNP]. Nonetheless we will work alongside our partners in the movement to secure independence. It represents both an advance for working people and a defeat for the forces of capital which holds them back.
“We believe we can win a second independence referendum whenever it takes place but we do not underestimate our opponents in any way.”
“The opinion polls show we have some way to go to persuade a clear majority to back Independence. We intend to work therefore to improve our collective message and achieve that victory. It will not be won with a timid ‘nothing much will change’ message or one based on 10 years of austerity post-Independence.
But we are convinced another energetic campaign allied to a persuasive economic and political prospectus aimed at emancipating Scotland’s huge working class majority can win this time.
Independence will not be won with a timid ‘nothing much will change’ message or one based on 10 years of austerity

I’ve raised this question before but what about the Scottish people who are living in the rest of the UK because they can’t get to vote. The last time I looked the United Kingdom was one country. It would be like having a general election and telling the people of Yorkshire you’re not allowed to vote because you live in Yorkshire

Seeing as there’s no such thing as a Scottish passport then you it’ll come down to the fact that you’ll need to be declared as living at a registered address to be able to vote.

The UK is NOT one country.
The independence vote, like last time and the next and the one after that, is only for people resident in Scotland.
Those who have moved permanently to live elsewhere have made their choice. I wish them well and they are welcome back anytime.

I hope Scotland doesn't leave the Union but if it means I don't have to see or hear that bloated oaf Ian Blackford at PMQs each week it will be a price worth paying.
And I say that as someone who rates Archie Gemmil's goal against Holland at the 1978 World Cup as the greatest WC goal ever scored.

Max , this is a genuine question and one that crops up always , but , where will the money come from to make these sweeping changes to the lives of Scots.
Would Scotland be denied funding from the UK

As part of the negotiations we will borrow the magic money tree the Tories have recently discovered after denying it's existence for donkeys years.
As well as the magic money tree the assets and liabilities of the UK would have to divided up and we wouldn't expect ongoing funds from the UK as we intend to suck up to the EU and access funds from them.

What about paying its share of the debt? I read that the debt alone would stop them joining the EU plus of course they wouldn’t be able to service it either.

Of course that's if the EU accepts you . In my opinion it's doubtful Spain would agree because of their own separatist issue with Catalonia . Then there's the Basque region which also straddles Southern France . That would give France something to think about as well. Anyway if Scotland gets it's second independence referendum and votes to leave I'd wish you good luck because you're going to need it .

No. It's nothing at all like that. Ludicrous analogy. Also the UK isn't one country and never has been. It's an administrative amalgamation of separate countries. There's always been a Scotland/England border for example.

Northern Independence Party obviously not all that bright, Northumbria, as it's name implies, is that land North of the Humber. Seems as if they have somehow acquired an equal dollop South of the Humber. All Nationalist are Warmongers. ( See Germany's National Social Party ).
