I don't get why some teams promoted to the prem, feel the need to spend 100mil+ on loads of new players. Surely the vast majority of the team should be good enough. It never seems to end well.

On one hand yes that approach didn't go well for Fulham but equally there's some players who just seem to specialise at that level of being able to win promotion to the Prem but can't hack it once they're actually there.

Some of the Villa signings are proven EPL players rather than randoms coming in cold so hopefully Dean Smith can mould them into a stable side. Good to see one of our fan favourites work their way up the ranks to the top level.

Villa have now signed Tom Heaton for £8 million, decent keeper although 33 years old.

Cant go into a season that light .

That’s prime age for a keeper. Can’t believe he’s 33 already though, I remember him coming through at United

Good signing, Burnley's season picked up when he came back into the side. Can only think they'll make Pope #1 as it didn't work with Hart.

Villa win 5-1 at Norwich today, I hope it goes well for Dean Smith he deserves it. Better than big spending, low flying Everton.

Yes, Looks like he's doing quite well there and hopefully Villa will have a decent season under his guidance .

5-1 win away from home. The Royals out in force. They will have have a happy day, after a slap up meal from Delia. Deano in line for a gong I would say.

Dean Smith has just signed a new 4 year contract. Well done smudge, now I really hope you keep your team in the premier league. We certainly missed a trick not appointing him as manager.

I understand at the time he was very unhappy to have not been given the job.

Pleased that Villa have done this, Deano always comes across as an honest manager in his interviews.

Dean has just guided Aston Villa to the league cup final after beating Leicester. Well done dean and well done villa. I am pleased for him, a proper O making a success of himself at the highest level, I hope he wins it.

Success?

2 places and 2 points off relegation is a success? That being the case, then why do you slate Ross Embleton who has Orient 4 places and 9 points of relegation. He must be a roaring success according to your determination

Morning spen, the first season in the premier is the hardest and they are out of the relegation places so let's see how this plays out first of all. Secondly he has taken them to a cup final which is a success especially when one considers how they were promoted just over 6 months ago.

A player normally over the course of a career may get a dozen opportunities to reach a cup final, and to play at Wembley in your first season in that league says well done to me. They've probably over achieved from their pre season aims and thus it would be considered a success.

Still you knock him and then with you pedantic ways, you love a bit of that don't you?

What a stupid comment this is. 2 places and 2 points off relegation in the premier league is better than being 30 points clear at the top of league 2.

A League cup final in his first year of top flight management funny enough is a success.

Go back to sleep you must be tired.

Erm

I haven't knocked anyone.

As for the bollocks about 1st season in Premiership being the hardest. Could argue 1st season back in football league is the hardest and apply that to judgement of RE.

You praise one and slate the other. You make excuses for one

Yep, that sums you up

Slagging off RE for achieving more in L2 in 1st season back in EFL than Dean Smith has achieved with vastly more resources in Premiership.

If 2 points and 2 places off relegation makes Dean Smith a success, then 4 places and 9 points off relegation must make a success as well.

With the squad we have we should be at the very least in the play offs, the reason we are not is because of what happened in the summer, coupled with numerous errors by an inexperienced interim head coach. How many formations have we tried? How many players have been played out of place? Poor tactics, poor playing styles and poor motivation all have contributed to where we are now. If that’s your definition of success then good on you, it’s not mine.

So how is Dean Smith deemed by you a success when his team are closer in both points and positions to relegation than Orient are?

If Smith is a success this season, the RE is or vice versa.
