Above everything I’m a democrat and whether one agrees with the result of a vote, democracy must always win, for the alternative is far far worse.

I felt somewhat uncomfortable with anti Brexit protests over here, including the way some of our politicians behaved in trying to override the result of a democratic referendum, but the protests on the streets remained peaceful, and I would always support the right to peaceful protest within the law. But what we’ve seen in the States from Trump and a section of his supporters is on a different scale completely.

I don’t know if people are less mature than they used to be in behaving like spoilt kids and bullies when they don’t get what they want, or suddenly they feel more empowered to throw their toys out the pram, but either way it’s not a good reflection on society of today, especially with lives lost.

At least Trump doesn't have to bother trashing Capitol Hill on the way out, his mob has done that for him. Now he can concentrate on leaving a dump in every room in the White House, or whatever it is losers like him do.

Meanwhile the adults in the room will certify the results of a fair, legal and democratic election.

Personally i think wee Nicola's wrong on this one. We should let him in - the courses are all frozen anyway so he wouldn't get to play golf. Then, when the USA ask to extradite him on terrorism and treason charges, we could trade him for Harry Dunn's killer.

This isn't about one man or people being childish. These people are angry. Start with that fact and work back but please don't conclude it was only due to the right wing media.

Its sickening to watch the Fascist enablers like Pence, McConnel etc sh*t the bed and row back toward democracy. They've had 4 years to do that but chose not to. They're not being sincere.

They used Trump for as long as he was useful to achieve their goals. Now he is done, they are ditching him. The party is morally bankrupt and deserves a massive backlash. But I'd be willing to bet they will take back the house and senate in two years time.

The primaries for those elections will be pretty wild. You are going to get some absolute pro trump loons dislodging existing senators and representatives.

There are so many Americans, in every part of the USA who feel that American democracy is not working for them and their rights, as they see them are being ignored or trodden upon. That probably explains why Building Off The Grid and Homestead Rescue are such popular shows on the Discovery channel.

Last time they split the country it led to the Civil War. That was almost literally a geographical split - North and South. Many think the split would be Repub v Democrat or Right v Left. There are some in the South today calling for states to leave the Union, as they did in 1860-61. I'm afraid it's a very complicated, fragmented and bitter scenario - much like 1861!

I think you get to a certain size and it doesnt make sense. Its not fair for vast lefty areas to be ruled by Trump or Johnson and vice versa.
