He is a good player. By that I mean he can control a ball , he can head a ball , he can kick a ball. But I don’t think he understands instructions or has any understanding of the game. I just don’t think that he is intelligent enough.Like many footballers, I doubt he would have a job if he wasn’t in the game.
Play him as much as you like but that part of his character will never change. He is not good enough for league two.
@George
That is basic defensive stuff and we cannot even seem to grasp the basics of defending the goal, especially when we have a right back who gives the winger he is supposed to mark,so much space and time to put crosses into the box thus creating goal scoring chances for his own forward players ( note the first goal we conceded) All this in spite of a coaching bench full of people who have lots of coaching badges between them ! I am sure that when I watched Os play at home to Dagenham in one of the cups a few seasons ago, Sam Ling played quite well for the Daggers in a normal type of fullback role. His game and confidence have really gone backwards since he re-joined Leyton Orient.
He plays like someone totally lacking in confidence. I still feel there is a decent player in there somewhere. Every now and then he does something really good. One pass at Salford was genuinely good for example.

But something somewhere ain’t right and he plays like someone who lacks passion for the club. Shame.

There must be people at the club who can Help him. Jobi for example. Why I was surprised that Jobi In one move completely ignored Ling, when in a good position, and chose to do it all himself. Coincidence? Maybe. But Ling looks like a spare part. You know, those games you play as a kid when there’s always someone no much good. Makes up the numbers but gets overlooked by the better players.
He isn’t an 18 year old kid who’s played a handful of games you know

This is the thing that rankles the most in the whole Ling v Judd debate. People weigh them up against each other as though they're at equal points in their careers. They're not.

Ling is about to turn 24. You're a senior member of the playing squad at that age.

Judd has just turned 21. He can effectively still be considered a kid.

Three years is a massive gap.

Who knows as to what is going on behind the scenes at Leyton Orient ? So wonder why is Myles Judd not even considered for a place on the subs bench when in my judgement, Myles is a good prospect, still a youngster and has had some really good games for the Os. Certainly a lot more energetic a player than Sam and far better when going forward, over-lapping etc and getting back to his defensive position. Sometimes a bit hot headed yes, but surely that is something that playing experience and coaching can help sort out.

We have conceded 9 goals in 6 games with 1clean sheet. It's only the attacking side thats keeping us in games. It appears as though no defender has been outstanding, so Judd not being in the squad is baffling. The conclusion for me is that his face doesn't fit within the club, but still doesn't want to move on. If true, then why?

Forum/Dad = pressure which leads to confidence and form. At the moment, he dont have it!

More delusion.

He has always been this bad. It's nothing to do with confidence.

He was much better for Daggers than us though. He just was. So its not really that ridiculous to say his confidence is probably shot, in addition to his ability. He can be better than he has been for us.

(And I'd have him as my last choice for the position myself).

How many games do you watch him play for Dagenham?

I can only go by the 3 years I've seen him play at Orient. You can count on 1 hand and have spare fingers to count how many decent games he's had. This is nothing to do with confidence. He's just a sh*t player who has had chance after chance.

Maybe 10 live. I was doing some work for a company that sponsors Daggers so actually saw about 5 on the trot, plus I watched him on TV here and there. He was decent for them for the most part.

He's had more than 5 decent games for Orient. He just has mate, come on. He's not my sort of player. I was surprised we signed him and I'm surprised we persist but I do still think the reaction to him (and his Dad) on here is unreal. It's all we bloody talk about.

He hasn’t though. He has no redeeming features to his game. The reaction to him on here is because he’s sh*t every week and we have to pay to watch it.

Agree to disagree then. He played 20 times as we won the league, of course at least 5 of those were at least 'decent'. But moving on.

The reaction is still over the top. It's borderline weird. What do you expect? You know or think he's going to be crap, so why make your forehead veins pump by getting so angry about it? Unless you're expecting it to change anything you're just kicking a dead horse.
