Re: Ya Ya Toure
The article I read said that he was training here to stay fit ahead of a move abroad when Coronavirus restrictions are lifted. Clearly never signing for us.
But either way, as good as he is, I think I'd be uncomfortable with both a) him playing competitive games for us for free or b) his salary paid for by a sponsor. Can see both scenarios being a big distraction with potential knock on impact to the rest of the team.

Re: Ya Ya Toure
Would be quite ironic if Corona ended up with Toure playing for us but simultaneously having no effect on income as fans couldn't come to the stadium to watch.
Good for the players to train with a player of his calibre though and another good bit of PR for the club. Media team on top form again, well done guys

Re: Ya Ya Toure
The fact is he does not need to play for money, he does not need to play to prove anything to anyone anymore. He has been there, done that, and been very well paid for doing it.
He is here cos he still wants to play, still has the hunger and desire, not for the money, but to play. If he is happy, feels welcomed, likes the people, the environment then why not?

Re: Ya Ya Toure
Lets just for a moment keep the w.t dream going how would you set the midfield up.
Cisse in holding role with Toure in a free role more attacking plus one or two others in midfield. I would imagine in this division Toure could be good for around 15 goals.

Silva and Pedro have been released, if we get all three we'd be in with a shout of the play offs..

Re: Ya Ya Toure
I could well be wrong but IF he did ever pull our shirt on in a competitive match I reckon he could struggle.
It's all very well training to get fit and keep a hand in but it's another when you're effectively turning out competitively for 'fun' when everyone else around you is playing for their careers and futures. It would take someone pretty special to make that work, someone like Jobi to be honest and I don't know how many of those players have it in them.
Having said that, having that desire is what got him to the very top.
The guy seems a top bloke though and just being there passing knowledge on is a major benefit.

A player/coach role would be a massive coup. But...unlikelyApple Wumble wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 11:04 am Maybe Yaya is interested in a coaching role, think we have a couple of vacancies.

I can remember the much same thing being said on this forum about Kevin Nolan when he joined us. Also remember the same sort of talk when Nolan was training with us before he signed, e.g how amazing he was in training etc...........but when he did start playing for us, so clear that he was unfit and past it. Makes me wonder how on earth this was not picked up on by our fitness coaches etc when he spent that time training with us ?

There was a video doing the rounds somewhere of them playing keep ball in training. The gulf in class between his touch and that of all our other players - who lets not forget are also professional footballers - was immense. Of course he would piss this league.

Re: Ya Ya Toure
Looking at the video, im gobsmacked at the sheer class & quality of Yaya.
If he was in our team, he'd score 25 goals a season.......15 from free kicks which are unstoppable, and 10 more ( at least) from free play.
The good he would do, is unmeasurable, inasmuch as 'educating' the younger players, and the sheer joy of playing football with one of the greatest players of the modern era

Comparing Kevin Nolan to Ya Ya toure ia a bit like comparing The Nolans to Bob Marley but i know what you mean Sid.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 11:43 am'' I would imagine in this division Toure could be good for around 15 goals.''AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 10:58 pm Lets just for a moment keep the w.t dream going how would you set the midfield up.

What's happened to Yaya Toure? How former Manchester City star is refusing to retire

AFRICAN ALL STARS
The midfield maestro has fallen off the map in recent months but he is determined to bow out on his own terms
From being voted Manchester City's player of the year in 2014 to a seemingly failed trial with a Chinese second-division side just last month, the career of Yaya Toure is winding to an interesting and potentially disappointing close.
Having scaled the heights of Europe with Barcelona, where he won the Champions League in 2009, and sealed iconic status at the Etihad, the now 36-year-old is desperately clinging to what's left of his playing days.
After a failed return to Greece with Olympiacos at the start of last season, Toure has made just five competitive appearances over the past year, playing a total of 222 minutes.

Indeed Sid. He was known to be a bit of a crock in his last couple of years at City. This feels a bit like this decade's Phil Mulryne.

Re: Ya Ya Toure
To play football at the top level, you have to be very fit, especially in midfield where you need to be able to keep running for the full 90 minutes.
Its a young mans game with no room for nostalgia once injuries and fitness issues start to lower your effectiveness when playing.

Re: Ya Ya Toure
Are people saying he’ll get 15-25 goals for us based on a YouTube compilation and a 30-second video of him playing keep ball with the rest of the squad?
Good to see we’re not getting ahead of ourselves
