Of course Battersea dogs home has been around for years but the fashion, for want of a better word is more recent. I have a friend who has a Spanish rescue dog. Never heard of that even a few years ago. I’m not talking about the existence of such things, more the trend, accelerated by TV celebs and shows increasing popularity.
The reason why I would now but not them is simple. 10 years ago I had young grandchildren and wanted to be as sure as I could the dog was more likely to be child safe. Labs have a great reputation and our experience shows just how good and patient they are. It’s hard to know for sure how a rescue dog would react. A simple, sensible precaution.
Now the kids are grown up this is no longer an issue.
Rescuing dogs is a fashion/trend?
Mate, not all rescue dogs are snarling, savage Staffies with a thirst for children's blood. I understand why people go to these greedy breeders - it's the easy way, you get to choose the nice new shiny puppy, you even get to choose when it arrives. Convenience.
But dog ownership shouldn't be about convenience. That's why so many people who go into it with your sort of attitude end up farming them off to rescue centres.
Not very nice comment about people with my attitude farming dogs out.
To consider what dogs are appropriate around children is very sensible. Google it for a list. It’s there for a reason. You may also want to read about rescue dogs around children and the uncertainty of how they may react.
Lots of people do it, the rescue centres are packed to the rafters
But also, you haven’t got kids.

It’s not hard to find how to do it.
Not sure about any ‘uncertainty’ as stated above.

Sorry to appear disrespectful but the stupidity of this is mind-blowing. I had young grandchildren that would be in frequent contact with the dog. The haven’t got kids comment is really silly. I care about my grandchildren too.
As for the safety aspect it’s all on the web. Plenty of it there. Care needs to be taken. Comments like “ before you bring a rescue dog into your home consider the age and maturity of children” and “it’s not uncommon for dogs to be content in a shelter but become testy in a new home” also some shelters recommend “waiting for children to become older before adopting a rescue dog”
I understand the mentality of a few of you wanting to have a dig at me but please, stop being so stupid about it.

Did you actually read that site? It says they may not choose to Re-home a dog with a young family. What I have been saying all along, now confirmed by the RSPCA. If you’re going to provide evidence, read it first or it makes yo look a real clown.

Read it properly yourself rather than trying to conflate your points yet again.

Stop making out all rescue dogs have baggage. It’s embarrassing. Some obviously do. Some don’t. Just explain your situation and you’ll be put in touch with the right dog at the right time.

Stop putting words into my mouth just try and twist things around. Where I have said all rescue dogs have baggage. I haven’t.. Stop being an idiot. I even said I would get one these days. My comments were solely around caution with kids, which has even been backed up thanks to Dis by the RSPCA. Which is sensible, which it right. No more, no less. No digs, just sound good sense from a person, me, who has been a dog lover/owner for most of my 71 years and with actual experience in this matter. You lost that argument so now you try and twist what I say. Pathetic.

You stated that you couldn't home a rescue dog 10 years ago because your children had children of their own. Your words.
That's nonsense. You could have homed a rescue dog 10 years ago, you simply chose not to because it's more convenient to cough up a few quid and pick the pup you want and take delivery of it at a time that suits. Although I don't agree with your decision, I understand it. Just don't lie about it.

Please consider a rescue, great opportunity to hit breeders where it hurts and adopt a homeless pet.

Clearly it is some potential owners who have baggage, then try to blame their deficiencies on poor canines.
Pathetic.

I have given all the reasons why, supported by the RSPCA. You like proof, there it is. You are in no position to call me a liar, the facts prove me right beyond dispute. It’s just you can’t stomach being wrong so embark on this silly crusade to save face. No change there then.
Stop being a joke. We all know you are wrong. Stop being a silly boy and go away.
