All well and good claiming that football fans are either PC enough or too scared of life imprisonment to utter a homophobic comment, but all it would take is one bad tackle on your teams player or a scuffed shot or pass and the abuse and ‘bantz’ would start up.

Nowhere near mate.
I’ve heard shouts of ‘f*cking poof’ at opposing players from our support as recently as last season.
Yes, homophobic language seems par for the course at home.
Sadly I think homophobic language and abuse would happen at home and away, however I think fans at our ground wouldn’t accept racist comments or chants.
If this guy exists or If any other gay player ‘comes out’ as Gay I think they would be very brave.
I’ve heard some shocking comments at Orient, although never anything racist, but I feel that any of the opposing players who were known to be gay Would get abuse from some fans. It’s a sad fact that even in 2020 people think that way but unfortunately there will always be racists and anti-gay fans in Football Grounds.
They’re an element in society and aren’t going anywhere unfortunately.
I've heard other fans shouting saying black players having a "Sun tan"
And yes I did call it out as well

Got to be honest, the only racialist comment I’ve ever heard was someone making some lame joke at a welsh teams goalie being the black sheep of the family, or something.

Abuse via social media is just as big, if not bigger, an issue. Typified by the Zaha stuff today.

I don’t know. You’d have to ask players if they find a SITMF or umpteen abusive e-comments more difficult to put up with.

Unfortunately Dis’ I believe that society will never be rid of racists . If all football or sport was banned tomorrow racists wouldn’t disappear, they would still exist spouting their appalling abuse of black, brown or foreign people.
It’s the same with homophobic folk . Yes, we could call it out but I think fans sitting around the offender would probably stay quiet not wanting to risk being abused themselves............it’s not right, I know, but a lot of people don’t wanna get involved .

Exactly, not everyone wants to call it out. Lots of people are happy with their privileged position of being white and straight.
Just look at how many people have taken offence at the black lives matter movement. That tells you all you need to know. Youve even got the leader of the Labour Party trying to call it a moment, not a movement, to downplay the whole situation.

Reminds me of someone making the point at work once that the worst thing to be in the company is a white male hetrosexual, for if one formed a work society based on that they’d be probably be sacked for racialism/ sexism/ homophobia – yet every other group seems to be able to form societies with the company’s blessing.

Two people. One is straight white male with chronic depressive episodes and the other is a gay black man. I would be the black man 100 times out of 100. Stop being ridiculous. You are actually putting down the people you are supposedly defending.

Why have you brought chronic depressive episodes into it?
