There's one appointment that would be smoking: Jackett. We should be hunting Jackett and do whatever it takes to book Jackett, although we may have to offer a super deal that would suit Jackett.

After all, if we don't offer enough, he'll just Jackett in .

Odds aren't up yet but worth looking at the good, the bad and the ugly (Phil Brown) who have been chalked up for the Southend job, a less attractive choice than Orient I would argue even though they are a division above us. I've left Larsson and Waddock off the list below.

Phil Parkinson (decent choice)
Sol Campbell (no thanks)
Gary Rowett (be surprised if he dropped to L2)
Nigel Adkins (ditto Rowett)
Kevin Nolan (methinks not)
Michael Flynn (no reason to leave Newport)
Ian Holloway (god help us)
Gareth Ainsworth (ditto Flynn)
Owen Coyle (is his middle name really Columba? remember when he was decent manager))
Phil Brown (moving swiftly on)
Steve Lovell (been around forever but no pedigree at this level)
Darrell Clarke (no reason to .......)
Steve Evans (fortunately he's not available)
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (always on these lists but no)
Darren Currie (can't imagine they would go for him)
Nigel Pearson (please don't)
Stuart McCall (wouldn't be a bad shout)
Chris Powell (remember when he was a decent manager)

I'm sure I read earlier that Stuart McCall joined a Scottish team.

Surprised nobody’s mentioned Shaun Derry.

A very close friend of Justin Edinburgh’s that spoke beautifully at his memorial. You’d think he’d be in the running and we could do a lot worse

Not a bad shout, but I do think it might be wise to go for something with no immediate connection to Justin. I think there is a case for respectfully moving on and trying to make things a bit more 'normal'.

phil parkinson for me....if not i'd actually go for danny webb! already managed in L2 (was brilliant under the circumstances) and imo has a good managerial career ahead of him

I can''t see how we'd get an experienced manager in when they can't appoint their own backroom people. I expect it'll be someone with a year or 2 behind them at best.

Shaun Derry would Tick the box as far as I'm concerned.
A bit of experience, but not too much .(Hasn't been sacked on numerous occasions).
Danny Webb might have been picked ahead of Ross, in August, as I believed then, he would make a manager, but for now I'd like to see an outsider brought in, and Derry would be my choice

Arsene Wenger or Peter Eustace....both very experienced

I like Danny Webb and I think he will make a good manager one day, it's just not today. By his own words he said h8es not ready for it (when he came back to us) and a short while later I doubt that's changed. He is learning all the time and the experience will stand him in good stead for his long term career prospects.

We could do worse than try Ian Hendon again. He did a decent job to begin with - though I'll admit he seemed to lose the plot towards the end of his tenure - but he's had 3 more years experience of coaching positions, since the Italian clown got rid of him.

But I don't think ML will go for him.

Daryl McMahon, Dave Challinor top picks personally.
Limited experience of managing in L1/L2

What about his England role? Does he have enough L1/L2 experience? Ling wont fall into the same trap as he did with Steve Davis who had no experience at the level we were playing at.
