This is the problem.
Everyone queries the subs made but there’s such a lack of quality on the bench.
There is but the game was set for Harrold today imo. Crawley defenders needed something else to think about as Wilkinson was tiring after being battered all match.
In midfield Clay was tiring well before he came off, was like that the other week too and we had a like for like replacement waiting on the bench.
I think we had the options we needed today but didn't utilise them well.
What do you mean we "didn't utilise them well ",We didn't utilise them at all . It should have been Harrold for Wilkinson and Marsh for Clay but it didn't happen.
I meant that we utilised the subs but the ones we used weren't the best choices imo

Doubt you would see Alabi or Gorman again if we did .

I'm sure you boys would find other players to bash.
If Alabi was in Boco Island and Gorman shopping in Stafford Centre, you guys would still blame them for all the O's shortfalls. From day one last year, you all were at it, how it was going to cost the club promotion etc etc.
I nearly forgot Ling, Lee and Lawless.

Some of our players are not good enough and will, understandably, attract criticism. What issue with that?

I thought with Widdowson out, we should have played wing backs.
All i can think with the defending, that we were frightened to give away a penalty and this mentality cost us.
Overall we looked very good, just need to sort out the defence.
Wing backs?
What a load of crap.

Having decided to take Alabi off the transfer list, there is a strong incentive for the manager to use him, and to be fair to him he did OK. The trouble is the players needed organising and needed their heads lifting. Harrold for Wilkinson would have been the better call.

Not really. Harold is plan B. He really doesn’t fit into our dynamic attacking quartet. Not that Alabi is that much of a better fit but at least you can put him out wide as Ross did and it doesn’t unbalance the whole thing.
Our problem is our total lack of depth.

Or as it turned out putting him wide did unbalance things as all the link-up play breaks down. Harrold for Wilkinson is basically like for like, one big tall lump for another one to battle for the high balls and get their head on the end of a cross.
Last season we had previous little upfront when Koroma or Bonne weren't available / on their game. Nothing has changed but now with the added challenge of a new strikeforce trying to settle as well.

Sorry, don't get this at all. Nobody wanting Alabi can't be seen as any kind of "incentive" to play him. How does that work? Secondly, he didn't do OK he was awful. Balls to him just bounced off him, he has almost zero control. He should be an absolute last resort to play (after Ada the kit man and Theo).

We have taken him off the transfer before the end of the transfer window. According to Nigel Travis (I think it was) on the Outlook Podcast, there was a club in for Alabi but he wanted to stay. Psychologically the manager is then under pressure to back his decision to keep him.

Nope, still don't get it. If I was the manager I'd just think "crap, I'm stuck with him but I'll Boco him where he can do least harm". I'd feel no pressure to play him at all. That's just my personal view of course.

If Justin was around, Alabi would have been exiled, just like the original Boco or Mooney.
Perhaps things are different for Ross. His job security and authority are much less than Justin's so couldn't afford an unhappy guy in the background kicking up a stink.
Don't think that is Alabi really, comes across as such a nice guy to the extent that if you asked him to shut up in the cinema he'd probably apologise. I'd love to see him be nastier on the pitch, get in people's faces and intimidate. Sadly I think his lack of results here probably renders that ineffective now, a good defender would be quite confident of getting the better of him if he keeps his head.
I would imagine despite not being on the list he is still very much up for sale.

I don’t know what some people were watching, Alabi was excellent
Define excellent lol. I saw him buzz around a bit, get to a loose ball then barely complete the pass to a red shirt at the end of it. All the finesse of bulldozer attempting to navigate a garden maze.
Tbh sometimes there is a place for someone with all the fitness of a bulldozer, putting himself about to unsettle defenders. But he don’t. For a big guy he isn’t a bulldozer up front, far from it. Can’t tackle, can’t hold the ball, it’s usually bounced away from him when he gets it, no control, and gets shoved around.
He’ll be gone come June so no point preserving with him, or Harold for that matter who will also be gone.
Dennis is the third striker for now.

Dennis in the first half looked electric I thought. Second half he just disappeared! - or was I watching a different game ?

I was surprised he started, he didn’t have a proper pre season and is being worked up. Definitely getting there but still not 100%.
The more worrying thing was that wilko and angol looked shot too.
