Best of luck to you ESG, but I don't think 250k on Ruels wages and 500k + wages for Shaq is the best use of the clubs money. That must be close to a million quid on a mid table players.
I agree entirely. If the club is going to pay that sort of money out you would think they’d be players that would be taking you to the next level.
As a fan I liked the hard working Ruel. Shaq was ok but I still think is unproven and far from certain to go higher. I don’t think either of them take you close to the Championship.

Funny how some of us seeem so interested in what Ruel/Shaq earn and how good or not they are. Some seem happy to talk them down now they’ve left.
Ruel got around 10 goals and 7 assists last season, a bit more support for the team from the bod and we could have made play offs. He will only get better. Shaq, excellent young prospect, we over played him towards the end of his loan. Again, will only get better.
We’ve ended up with Kelman & Perkins, let’s see how they do.

Where are Rovers getting all this cash from? Birmingham's spend is crackers for this level but the likes of Rovers, Wycombe, Wrexham and Stockport going this big on fees and wages is surely unsustainable. Feels a bit like the sort of reckless speculative spending that takes place in the championship with the hope of making it to the prem and the financial returns it offers is starting to filter through to this level, Ipswich and Luton have shown a quick climb through the leagues is possible and a League 1 club is a cheaper purchase than a championship one.

Ruel is an ok L1 squad player. I would have been happy to keep him on if his wages had remained low. He has a great work ethic, battles well for a little un, and has a nasty habit of scoring goals. However, he can't play up top on his own, and isn't really a wide player or a 10. Strangely, he would have been betters suited to the 2 up top we've played this season. I'm happy he's landed himself a big money deal but Rovers are paying massively over the odds.
Shaq has massive potential and has future Championship player written all over him. Despite the understandable drop off due to overuse, his first season in League football was a massive success. If Rovers continue to develop him as well as we did, they will make money on him. (Although he obviously doesn't justify his even more massive wages based on current ability).
Based on ability now, I'd take Forde first, then either of Ruel or Kelman. Perkins doesn't even register.

according to Transfermarkt, our net spend this summer is moderate (have seen it somewhere but can't find it now)
and we have the 3rd-lowest squad retention since last season in the Division - which is good news given that Joey Barton and his cronies recruited the previous squad

Well that's clearly not reliable, as it understates the fee for Sotiriou and has no clue about Forde. Together they cost the thick end of a million, and doubtless that site has many other inaccuracies and gaps.
