Brown like last week was absolutely knackered after 80 and Kelman just put every shot straight at the keeper
Another one in the "tries hard but not quite good enough" bracket at this level. Useful utility player but midfield anchor, nope. Got bailed out a lot by El Miz last season and the difference without him there is telling already.

Bit of a mugging yes though for as bad as the ref was he could've given them a cheap penalty and didn't have a hand in their goal
Chea penalty? he had hold of Becles then fell over, NEVER a pen
Seen them given though and with some of the other calls Charlton had their way during the game it wouldn't have been surprising had they got it
I dont think ive seen a pen for falling over since klinsman was about

Performance was ok, but we’re definitely finishing somewhere between 15th and 20th this season. Not a hope of getting anywhere near play offs with this squad. Charlton didn’t exactly blow me away, but we could play them for 5 hours and barely get a shot on target. This will be a common theme amongst many teams this season.

And why does Jordan Brown struggle to play a semi-decent forward pass?

It’s almost as if Jordan is doing sh*t loads of work in there or something, isn’t it.

Or just not mobile enough to do that role for 90+ mins, often looks a yard behind the play

I think that raises it's own questions though, two weeks in a row the last ten the team has just collapsed fitness wise, either subs need to be better, pre-season games against better sides, going from Cheshunt to playing Bolton/Charlton is a totally different ball game or during the game the players are working too hard and thus the tank is empty at the end,

Charlton stole the win aided by a terrible referee, charlton certainly weren't the better team
Yes , I agree the ref wasn't great but Charlton did finish the stronger . It's going to be a long season .
Aug-April, same as always
It's going to feel a lot longer than that going by the looks of it so far . We couldn't compete off the field with transfers so now it's looking like it's going to show on the pitch .

Now El Miz has gone, he’s the fittest player in the squad.

There’s a reason Wellens leaves him out there and changes everyone else.

It was fine. We’ll beat the weaker teams in this division playing like that.

I don’t think we need to be digging any players out. I thought the effort was good. We are not quite firing and are not balanced as we should be. Give RW a few games and we’ll improve.

The starting XI have a good reason to look at the 5 that came on and question their input. Did well to keep Charlton away from Hemmings for most of the game then we bring the full bench on and the shape seemed to go to pot.

At 80 odd mins I said at home I hope we can hold on as they've fought hard for a point, alas didn't make it.
Story of O wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 3:05 pm If we had held on for a point, would there be the same criticism of players?
Story would've been "two teams with plenty of effort but lacking in quality". It was a very scrappy game almost more League 2 worthy than League 1 but we fell away badly at the end.

If players have been poor they will get get criticism, none of the subs helped the cause today so that's 5 for starters. Richie is a great manager but he needs the tools and we look short of quality in key areas still.

Agreed - no faulting the effort but clearly Charlton became the stronger of the two teams as the second half progressed and we wilted badly in the last half hour.

Another booking to keep up his 100% record so far this season, along with Nathan Jones who is on the same :D

Booked for enthusiastically clapping one of our players. The referee misinterpreted it as sarcasm aimed his way for another sh*t decision.

Yep and don’t think he’ll be too pleased with that second half. We looked very naive at the end

Because he just isn't that good, got dogs abuse for it but he is just another Clay type player, runner and gets stuck jn but technical wise he is a league two footballer. Every team needs runners but there is nothing special about him
