Wages were low, most players were on £1000 to £1500 per week, now we're league 1, & players are expecting around six times that, and the two T's, just can't or won't pay that.

I think the reality is being in the 3rd tier, has shocked them from a financial point of view.

It appears a decent striker in this league commands North of 6 grand a week, and unless the club pays it,\will not be able to sign a decent striker

When Agyei's contact runs out, his agent will demand that kind of money, and we'll lose him to a club that will pay him that

League 2 is probably the level our owners will be comfortable in
Frank and to the point comment ! e.g ''I think the reality is being in the 3rd tier, has shocked them from a financial point of view''

For myself, I see Leyton Orient as between being an upper league Division 2 and lower league Division 1 team with a struggle to compete both financially and result wise with the top ten teams in division 1this season. Also seems like Division 1 will be a lot more competitive than last season.

As a lone striker, yes, they are. Same with Edwards.
Rubex Kube wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 10:08 am GShaw moaned about Agyei being to weak & only making 11 appearences against L1 Centre Halfs,
No he didn't. Nothing of the sort. He (correctly) stated Agyei is the only player we have with a physical presence that can retain possession and that we need someone else who can also do that.
Rubex Kube wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 10:08 am Ruel Sotoriou scored 11 goals in 42 League games with little support from Kelman Forde Edwards etc against L1 Defenders you claim he was too weak to deal with, Then sarcastically blame me for your bullsh!t arguments.
I don't know what this bit of rambling actually means but I'll try to respond as best I can. I like Ruel. He's a goalscorer. I wish he was still in our squad of attacking options. However, not at £5k a week and not starting games on a regular basis and definitely not playing as a lone 9. He doesn't have the physical presence to play that role.

They put out the about exciting incoming transfers. RW was the subject to other clubs getting him, just before the ST deadline then lo and behold, he signed a new contract within 24 hours just a few days before the deadline. Funny how the club can move fast when it wants to? If you call 2 very poor loans and a knackered ex long term injury player exciting signings? Personally if I knew then what I know now I wouldn’t have renewed. Which ever way you look at this it’s been yet another poor transfer window this far,we have all been sold a puppy.
If what you said is true then it's worked , hook, line and sinker . The trouble is the club can't pull this trick again and expect us to swallow it .

People will think I’m anti Orient, No I’m not, been a supporter for decades, I want to see our team do well just as we all do however I don’t like being lied to and being told this seasons transfers will be exciting but in reality there not. Just come out and say we don’t have the money instead of all the BS. What gets me worried is that we have lost our top goal scorer to a bang average middle of the table team who can pay 40% more money than we can and there attendances are no more than ours. There have already been a lot of good quality players that have been snapped up and there contracts run out a week ago. Presumably Ling will be off to Stoke Mandeville to sign a couple on the last day of the window

The investors have made it quite clear they think we overpay. They’re all in it to spend as little as possible to get maximum returns when the club is sold in a couple of years

What you say may be true but you have to pay the market price whether you like it or not unfortunately, we are a London club and have to pay London prices. I look a little in envy at clubs like Brighton,Brentford and even Luton who have more ambition than us, all London or southern based and have to pay southern based wages. Peterborough another club that bring in players and sell for profit but give them a 3 year contract unlike us that only give 2years and that’s why we loose players for nothing. That’s down to Ling and the board .

Stop making yourself look Stupid, Ruel was the only forward who was fit enough over a season, where Wellens used him in numerous ways, Agyei has only been fit enough for 2 or 3 90 minute appearances last season& cannot be strong enough physically with games completed. The rambling shows your LIES don't work.

If the investors really think we overpay then the thread title is correct , we can't compete .

And yet we paid agents less than any other club in the division last season so how does that work?

Leyton Orient are like many other lower league EFL clubs, finding it hard to run the club without losing millions of pounds every year.
Dreams of reaching the Championship or even Premier in the near future are just that...... ''Dreams''

I think Travis has been fairly upfront on this. Unless we build a new stadium with other facilities around it we will not have the resources to challenge to be a championship team.

That much is true and IMO if things recruitment wise don't improve a lot, then it will be a struggle to remain in Division One.

The club need much, much more financial investment to get promotion. If we had that last year I think we would have been promoted or at least got in the play offs. Now we have to start again with far less quality players than we had last year.
Don’t think we will get anywhere if we can’t find the money to bring in quality like El Mizouni .
I won’t hold my breath on future quality signings that a have played regular first team football at League 1 or above and that are not sick notes.

It won’t happen this the current board. They’re not going to lump 10s of millions of debt onto Orient to pay for a new stadium that won’t be full.

The demand is barely there for when Orient are good.

So we will tread water in League 1 at best until we get a new stadium , glad I didn’t renew my season ticket.

We didn’t need much more financial investment.

If we had brought in one proper striker in January instead of 2 kids, we would have remained in with a play off shout.

If we had a proper striker instead of Piggot and a proper 10 instead of Moncs, we would have definitely made the play offs.

We don’t need a bigger budget. Richie has shown he can make it work. We just need to spend it that little bit more wisely.

Possibly but was the reason we didn’t bring in one proper striker in January instead of 2 Kids and one proper striker instead of Piggot and a proper 10 instead of Moncs due to the lack of money available, if it was then surely that is a reason for much more financial investment and the need for new investors ?

Don’t follow?

We are paying Piggot and Moncur decent L1 salaries. If we had a decent L1 standard striker and a decent L1 standard no 10, instead of Piggot and Moncur, we would have made the playoffs.

The budget is tight but Richie is shrewd enough to make it work. We just can’t afford any wastage with it. Every signing had to work and every player contribute to the effort.

Must try hard to unload Piggot and Moncur before the new season starts, even if to cut our losses they are loaned out.
Thing is that if by magic Moncur gets fit again, he can be a very good midfield player in this division, we saw a few times last season of what he can do when he is fit and up for it !

Totally agree.

I'm OK with having Moncur again this season but Pigott has got to go .

Peterborough spend money on players, that’s why they put them on 3 year contracts. Keep them for 2 years then put them up for sale if they don’t renew.

At losses running at c.£2.5m, it means that every bum on every seat occupied at Brisbane Road is being subsidised by the board to the tune of £12-13. We moan when it goes up £2 a game each season - and then cite its the boards reward when we go up and get the higher league's rewards. What reward? The championship loses £20m a club on average. What incentive is there for the board to try and invest for promotion? Very little it seems - especially when some of the people they are doing it for - us - moan about the level of investment and the quality of signings.

The club does the best it can with what it has using the best people it has at its disposal. Honest and loyal men such as Ling - who does not deserve half of what he gets on here. Some of you lot make it seem like you have been "lied to". That did not happen. Any comment made by the board and posted on here is almost certainly taken in isolation and so out of context. If you think we'd been promised x and y has been delivered, then you probably over inflated your own expectation or more simply the board tried to deliver the promises but circumstances outside their planning meant that they failed to achieve what they expected to.

We have a positive vibe going at this club and as fans we have an obligation to play our part. We've shown that in both the darkest of times in support of this club and even more so in inspiring the team in its efforts over the past 2 seasons. No matter who steps across that white line for us next season they will be well coached and very able of delivering league one standard efforts.
