They definitely have a way out if he voluntarily steps down. They aren't particularly democratic, but both parties used to do contested conventions all the time, they then put someone in who still has their marbles and can say with a straight face look at how mentally infirm trump is. It's their only reasonable option at this stage, sticking with Biden is impossible.

There's definitely a need for an intervention of some kind. He could surely have done the one term - main mission to beat Trump, save the nation etc, then do a few bits and bobs that aren't chaotic and have a handover plan in place. Absolute madness that he's decided to stick around for another go and that, seemingly, no-one close to him has pushed for a succession candidate.

I've just watched some of last nights debate and Jeezus, Biden was bad . I thought he was a car crash in slow motion . I actually felt sorry for him becasue obviously he's not a well man . The thing is though Biden is supposed to be the leader of the Western world and to think he has his finger on the nuclear button is bloody scary . The interesting thing now is what shenanigans are the Democrats going to pull to replace him . They make the law up as they go along so anything is possible .

I hope that Biden will have some good advisors and listen to them.
He has generally done a good job (apart from his backing of Netanyahu). Time for somebody else to bring a strong stance of sanity against the madness of the convict Trump.

I stand by both my comments. He did the right thing to end the Assange mega issue in a sane solution.

Greetings from USA. Watched the whole show last night and while journeying back from NJ to upstate NY caught all the opinions today. Biden's performance was a shambles and whatever his policies, achievements etc none of that counted at all. It's all about his unfitness to run. He has to - there is no one else who has a ghost of a chance of beating Trump.

He's not standing down, so trump it is. I think he'll push through people and powers that mean the democrats will never have power even when they next win again

The anti-NATO crowd could get the outcome they think they've always wanted.

Trump isn't anti NATO . He just wants other NATO members to pay their fair share which they all agreed upon .

Whats it got to do with the law? They can choose another candidate, their party just doesn't seem to have any particular rules or process to do that at this stage.

Biden has already insisted he will fight and win the November election . Anyway , whatever shenanigans the Democrats pull they will disenfranchise their core voters because nobody would have voted for the new person on the ticket .

Reading this morning how Biden's family have convinced him to keep on, with shifting the blame for his performance onto his advisors.

Lot of money overnight on Kamala Harris to be the democratic nominee, and she is now in many places 2nd favourite to be the next POTUS (after Trump).

Strange, given she is often touted as the one person who is actually worse than Biden in the public eye.

What if President Biden gets somebody to shoot Trump?

You mean somebody like BBC presenter David Aaronovitch?

If there is such a thing as an afterlife then why not,
I was referring to Trumps immunity from presidential acts. If Biden was to get someone to shoot Trump as a presidential act, surely Biden can't be prosecuted?
