Re: Sentiment shouldn’t come into this
Yes, it's easy to jump onto cockhat after just two games, re his opening post. But I think he will be proven right. Even if we do win our next game, Ross I have to say reluctantly, is not going to be our answer.
We need a proper number one, experienced, understanding and better still, with a calming influence - soonest.

Agreed. I reckon we will have a new Head Coach in place before the end of November.Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 9:46 am Yes, it's easy to jump onto cockhat after just two games, re his opening post. We all know Russ has never achieved a promotion, don’t mean to say it’s beyond him. But what we need now is a period of stability and I for one would be pleased to have two comfortable seasons in L2 as part of a structured building process, both on and off the field. Walk before we run stuff. Russ would have been excellent in that area. I have little doubt he could have worked well with Ling Snr too in the same way Justin did.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 10:43 pmAs far as I can remember , Russell saved us from relegation and got us within two penalty kicks of getting us into the Championship. He also built a great team spirit before Beelzebub arrived and ruined everything.
But Ross, not Russ got the gig and he needs to be given a few months to prove his worth. I have mixed feelings about Ross. I don’t think he is the man for the job by some margin and got appointed for sentimental reasons, not ability. But I don’t want us in a relegation dog fight either.

The all important thing is we consolidate in League Two and we don't end up in a relegation dogfight . I'd bring back Russell in half a heartbeat.

Re: Sentiment shouldn’t come into this
That’s exactly what you said.
Your claim was that mangers sacked early in the season are failures and therefore one isn’t engaging their brain by suggesting that we should wait for early sackings before looking for a new manager.
You were immediately mugged off by somebody pointing out that Justin was sacked early in the season but did alright here.
Stick to defending nonces, sounds like you have more experience at that.

Have it you way.you clearly can't read, because I didn't say what you suggest.Fenners131 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:57 pmThat’s exactly what you said.

I chose my words very carefully and stand by them.
Strangely you don't actually quote what I said, why not? Perhaps because it doesn't say what you want it to.
But you carry on making out I said something different to what I actually posted

Because anybody who isn’t you can see what a knob you look like on this thread.
You’ve been totally mugged off and now making a weak attempt at back tracking.

Re: Sentiment shouldn’t come into this
On the field we still have players under contract who will eventually leave and be replaced with better. Perhaps even manage when some players get sold bringing in solid replacements. The squad has some way to go for promotion.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:27 pmWhat on and off field stuff still needs to be built?dOh Nut wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:16 pmWe all know Russ has never achieved a promotion, don’t mean to say it’s beyond him. Off the field the owners needs to stabilise finances based on L2 wages and income and maybe catch their breath being ahead of plan. Probably more sponsorship or other revenue streams to be sorted.
We ain’t the finished artkicle L2 wise. A sound platform before moving forward.

Backtracking?
I have repeatedly said I stand by my post. That is back tracking?

Re: Sentiment shouldn’t come into this
Everyone has their own opinion I know but given the title of this thread is “ Sentiment shouldn’t come into this” I’m surprised anyone thinks bringing Slade back would be anything other than a “ sentimental” decision. The man did a decent job while he was here but his time has come and gone. If results mean the club have to move on from Embleton sooner than expected a younger, fresher option is needed than the bald one!RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:26 pm The all important thing is we consolidate in League Two and we don't end up in a relegation dogfight . Re: Sentiment shouldn’t come into this
The other option is to employ an experienced manager to be a number two and someone for Ross to lean on.
At the moment if things aren’t going right, he has two other very inexperienced coaches behind him.
Harry Redknapp was on soccer Saturday saying the only way he’d get into football again was doing something similar...

OK, that's fair enough but preferably somebody with some decent experience .redintheface wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 8:11 pmEveryone has their own opinion I know but given the title of this thread is “ Sentiment shouldn’t come into this” I’m surprised anyone thinks bringing Slade back would be anything other than a “ sentimental” decision. It's a difficult relationship if more experienced man is only no 2.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 8:18 pm The other option is to employ an experienced manager to be a number two and someone for Ross to lean on.

Would not work for many pairings, but can see the logic with the right personalities

Re: Sentiment shouldn’t come into this
I see the point you make but imho that would tend to make the “ experienced number two” the real power behind the throne and undermine RE. Personally, I think that having made the decision the club has to give Ross a chance to prove himself one way or the other and if necessary act accordingly if things don’t work out.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 8:18 pm The other option is to employ an experienced manager to be a number two and someone for Ross to lean on.
