The Reverend wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 10:40 pm This makes the selling of Ogie even more bizarre.

Why sell a young promising player of our own to replace him with someone else’s player. Strange decision.
Because the offer of 100k for a CB who was 5th choice, started about five games that season, was far too good to turn down, probably for both the club and player
We could have done with Shad today πŸ™„
That same Shad got outmuscled by Northampton leading to a goal in the game he came on for Beckles. His stock has increased by his absence but don't think he was the answer at this level.

I think Ogie was maybe a better left back than central defender and he did not win that many headers when under pressure playing in the central defence position. Lastly. Gillingham lost again today !

Gillingham obviously thought differently about Shad
He would have coped better than Turns did today

Big difference between L1 and L2, the step up is very noticeable and I doubt even Ling would stick by his "no real difference between the leagues" statement from last time we got promoted.

So far , Stevenage seem to have managed to make that step up in standard .

Stevenage signed six players from L1 clubs, three of those from Posh who Evans knew from his time there, so they have brought in significant L1 experience.

The reason why I edited my original post is because I think we have one of the best midfields in League 1 so I don't think the difference is in that area . Like you said they have brought in six players from League 1 which has obviously made a difference . My conclusion is they must have had a bigger budget than us .

Not sure if it’s a bigger budget or a better spent budget, ML said we’re in the middle 8 in terms of budget and Stevenage won’t be punching higher than that. The injury crisis has clearly been a factor overall and we’re currently the lowest of the four promoted teams, with two difficult away trips to come, but I don’t think injuries were a factor yesterday. Do agree with you re our midfield, it looks strong, Galbraith and the returning Sanders seem excellent additions.

I've seen the highlights from Gillinghams game yesterday.

Pretty sure it was Shad getting caught on the ball to give away the second goal.

Shad is not (currently) the answer for L1.

It was Shad yes, that was always one of his weaknesses.

Shad was hooked at half time, not sure whether he was injured or not. Neil Harris described
the teams performance as "a shambles" and "rubbish".

Ling revealed an interesting club stat in one of his recent interviews , Shad Ogie was the most tackled player at the club.
Not good for a C/B F/B perhaps carries the ball into wrong areas not manipulating it quickly enough body shape wrong when receiving etc .Whatever Wellans did'nt trust him and it appears maybe that they was'nt able to coach it out of him.
