I expect over the years we've lost one or two because we took too long to go for them definitely.
It's the Orient way
I expect over the years, we've signed a good player by waiting for him to become available, for example Idris, rather than rushing to sign the first player that knocks on the door. It's more important to make a good decision, rather than a quick one.
You have just dont the thing almost everyone does, and its wrong. you associate quick buys as bad buys, and waiting longer as good buys.
Buying quickly isnt bad in itself, why shoudnt people, in all walks of life, be able to make successful decisions, quickly?
In Summer 2018, we waited ages before signing two of the worst signings ever...Alabi & Gorman. They wernt rushed, we took ages over them, but they were bad signings.
Ever heard of " The early bird catches the worm" or " He who hesitates is lost"
Nowhere did I say a quick buy was a bad buy, what I said was that it's important to make a good decision. By stating " The early bird catches the worm" or "He who hesitates is lost", you are implying that an early signing is a good signing. That is not necessarily the case.

I thought Rhys Byrne was contracted? Does this mean we could potentially be left without a single keeper since Sargeant's already gone?

Not the attitude I have.
I believe Paul Smyth is the best player to wear an Orient shirt ever.
We won't be able to replace him like for like.
He would be a major loss to us
I really hope he signs

With many players away , surely the way to announce players re-signing is with an interview Pitch side holding a scarf & not beach side holding kids melting ice-creams !

I hope Smyth signs but saying he is the best player to ever play for us is almost hysterical.

I’d they sign great. If they leave, good luck to them.

No player or players is bigger than a club. It’ll be a challenge replacing them for sure but the world isn’t going to implode because a few lower league footballers didn’t sign a new contract. Presumably them leaving will free up finances anyway.

The waiting part is a bit annoying but I guess they are still on holiday/agents looking at other offers.

As long as the ones who leave are replaced with decent players all is good.

Looking at Smyth specifically, yes he’s an excellent player but people seem to be forgetting that he’s a bit of a liability when it comes to injuries. We were very lucky last season that he wasn’t out of an extended period. I don’t think we’ll be as fortunate this season even if he does stay.

Beckles, great bloke but is he really going to set league 1 alight? Last time he was in the division I don’t think he did that well.

Happe another injury liability who has had two long term injuries in the past year. Complete unknown at L1 level as well.

Vigs is the only one on that list who is an absolute must keep. He’s clearly a L1 level GK and I don’t think we’d be able to replace him with anyone remotely as good.

I’m not saying we wouldn’t want to keep these players but I’m just putting a bit of perspective out there

Is Paul Smyth better than Moses Odubajo or Dean Cox? Not sure he is. He's the best winger we've had since them and over the last 6/7 years or so.

Agree on the perspective of how irreplaceable they may or may not be. Does mean business will need to be done quicker as if you're signing 10 players they're going to need more time to turn into a cohesive unit, especially in defence.

My other left-field prediction is Sweeney doesn't sign either and someone like Peterborough takes a punt on him for future potential.

My prediction is Beckles , Happe and Sweeney will all re-sign for us again . I reckon Vigs will be off to a bigger league 1 club or the Championship . Smyth is the only one I feel is 50/50.

I’d be very disappointed if Happe and Sweeney leave, obviously if they get a move to a big club or in the Championship to play every week, you can’t blame them. I’m not going to get too wound up by it until we know who is staying or not.

Having 4 of our back 5 out of contract at the same time is absolutely ridiculous too. Shouldn’t have happened.
