I'm certain Tony Sir Tony Blair would have run for president, as would Boris Johnson.
At least the royals keep those morons out
Didnt Sir Winston & Sir Harold have 2 seperate leadership terms ?

Edward V111 was allegedly a Nazi sympathiser.

And, in the 1960s I believe there was talk of a plot to overthrow Harold Wilson's govt and instal Mountbatten as head of a new govt.

Yes, but what's that got to do with anything?
Strictly speaking Wilson had three terms

There was an establishment plot to overthrow Harold Wilson, and install the idiot Mountbatten.
A few rogue MI6 operatives believed (wrongly), that Wilson was a communist sympathiser, because he flew to the Soviet Union a number of times.
He had business interests there, but it didn't stop advanced plans to use the military to overthrow Wilson.
The BBC made a good drama based on the episode, called A Very British Coup
Well worth watching if you can locate it
