Re: 7 midfielders put forward to Richie Wellens
Agree with this. Richie has said that he wants to focus on what he’s here for, managing. He hasn’t got time to watch thousands of players, scout them etc… I’m sure he knows some players that he wants and in those cases, he tells Ling and he sorts them rest.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 1:18 amI'd be very surprised if Rob Hunt was suggested by the transfer committee and not Richie, likewise George Moncur, so I think he is having his say. That said expecting a Manger to manage the team, analyse the last match, study forthcoming opposition, and then go on a tour of Britain looking for players is not practical, so some help is needed looking for future talent. As long as Richie has the final say which it appears he does I'm happy. Whether he's being offered a pile of talent or a pile of cack is a different discussion.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 5:31 pm No wonder things are going wrong , it should be Richie naming the players he wants not having names put forward to him.
Will our club ever get this right ?
I’m no fan of Ling but the process makes sense to me. However, the problem seems to not be in the process, it’s in the quality of player coming back out of it to Richie. Whether that’s a budget issue or that we are scouting the wrong players/not doing a very good job of matching criteria to players, I don’t know.
We’ve got about 2 weeks to sort this. Everyone should be in a room, including Richie and spending every afternoon going through players until we sort it

The thing is that if PoundO ever has a reasonable point it gets lost in the morass of non-stop negativity and complaining. With regard to this current whinge, well, it's based on hearsay and his one constant - that the club is always wrong. Christ it's boring.......Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 9:16 amHe has a point though surely?BoniO wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 5:36 pmWill you ever stop moaning?PoundhillO wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 5:31 pm

Sod that. Just hand this one over to Richie to get it sorted, even if it means taking his eye off of other matters just for a little while.

Re: 7 midfielders put forward to Richie Wellens
The bottom line is last season that scenario came uncomfortably close to costing us relegation . Only Otis Khan was decent and now all six have left the club . How much money did that cost the club. I'd rather keep a player like Connor Wood and go out on a limb and get that CDM that Rhicie wants. If we're unable to sign his first choice we go for his second and so on . I think the money would be better to spent there rather than wasting it on six muppets in January . I don't like this idea of our transfer committee seemingly choosing a small group of players and telling the manager ' Pick one of them ". It should be Richie's decision what players we approach and with all due respect not our faarking transfer committee

Of course our transfer committee hasn't got a clue about players . With the greatest of respect because I think they are great guys who I believe were heaven sent to save our club but they know jack about players . Leave our player targets to Richie . I thought that was one of the reasons why the club hired him . Back Richie even rather and let him get on with the job

Re: 7 midfielders put forward to Richie Wellens
Surely the committee is a sign off process?
Richie says I want this position with these attributes
Ling checks the budget and gets sign off if more money is needed
The scouts go out and find players that work within that budget and alongside what Richie wants
Richie says yes
The committee get the info on the player and why we are signing him then sign off or don’t

Of course the transfer committee haven’t a clue most are business men and suits and I’m no Ling supporter by any means but I think you have to look a little deeper, the scouting system that’s in place for example. Wellens can’t be expected to be in two places at once and has to rely on scouting reports plus I would think Ling has the final say before it gets to Wellens and the club will always put the cheapest option first.

On the other hand...
Reilly, Moss, Coleman, Brown, Ray, Khan, Freeman, Abrahams, Sterling, Marsh (as a CM)
What's telling in that particular list is how many poor CM signings are in there. Definitely an area they get it wrong far more than right. I'd back Wellens' judgement over the scouts / committee every time.
Slade must've been a superhero in that case, how did he manage to function without a committeeMonkey Boy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 12:25 pm Of course the transfer committee haven’t a clue most are business men and suits and I’m no Ling supporter by any means but I think you have to look a little deeper, the scouting system that’s in place for example. He had a smaller pool of players to choose from. Anyone who would cost any money was vetoed by Hearn from the outset
