Essex win by virtue of getting a first innings lead. That's the rule.

26-2 Westley looks to have got a bad decision but this is what Essex supporters fear our batting is rather brittle but while Sir Chef is there we have a chance.

Somerset will really fancy their chances now, I read somewhere tha no batting side had reached 200 against them this season until the first innings of this game, they have a decent bowling attack.

If it's a tie the 2 teams will share the trophy. This opening line up gives you the jitters - Browne may have just had his last innings / chance.

Another poor decision. Cook stayed at the crease and clearly thought it was bat clipping pad not bat on ball. I don't think in all my time watching him he's ever looked so dissapointed at being given out, but he's got to go Somerset are really putting pressure on the umpires lots of appealing Essex are under pressure.

Well done Essex! A great match, congrats to both sides. It's feeling like the 80's all over again, although Somerset are now the big rivals, not Middx. and Gatting.

Somerset have a good young side the will be a force in seasons to come, we need to be looking at replacements for Brown,Quinn and Chopra we didn't replace Bopara either so some good recruitment needs to be done.

The only time we scored over 300 this season... and boy did it matter!

A pity that the first innings lead rule ruined it as a game, in the end. Essex just went for the draw, and they were right to do so, but if they’d had to chase down a score then it would have been much more exciting. They could have gone for higher scoring rate in the event of a draw, would have been much fairer. Essex‘s batting didn’t look that convincing at any time in the game except for Cook of course, and some of yesterday’s bowling mid-afternoon was pretty poor. Some rebuilding needed for next season.

But another trophy, so I’m happy with that.
