Max B Gold wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 11:34 pm The Conservative thinktank Bright Blue issued a stark warning.

“The public will soon tire of Boris’s banter if the government does not get a grip of mounting crises: price rises, tax rises, fuel shortages, labour shortages. There was nothing new in this speech, no inspiring new vision or policy,” its chief executive, Ryan Shorthouse, said.
But, but, but Maffy said it sold a dream. Surely he’s not got it wrong?
Or Bright Blue are wrong. Tory members/legacy voters/activists either never liked Johnson, or are increasingly disliking him. But, like Labour's equivalent, they just don't matter.

Right now, if I was forced to pick something that could damage Johnson, it would be energy prices (even though that's possibly one thing he's least able to fix short term). The potential economic and industrial damage from that has the potential to be terrifying.

Also, interesting that Bright Blue cite rising wages as a crisis. I know it's not as simple as that, but we've entered a world where a Tory PM is championing higher wages for workers, and the Labour opposition are... Well, they're doing whatever it is they're doing. Bizarre.
TBH, I'm just digging at Maffy for his well worn contrarian / cap doffing bollocks.

No idea where Labour go from here. I voted for Starmer as what I thought would be the best option for Labour to take on Johnson. So far he's been a massive disappointment who seems more interested in navel gazing and internal squabbles. Not a serious punch landed on the tories despite the skip fire they've made of everything from the pandemic to wages.

Don't see anyone standout in the shad cab or PLP either to replace him so don't see any changes soon. Burnham's very much king across the water but he'll need parachuting into a seat first....

Council tax could rise by £220, say researchers

Another good news story for the Story party .
Pray tell us how you think we shall recoup the money everyone got for sitting indoors for the best part of 2 years. Nothing in this life is free. Just for the record , i worked all the way through it .
And also for the record , i am not complaining that i will also have to pay more to pay back that money despite not getting any of it
You forgot to mention the tens of billions spunked away on the track & trace app and lining their friends pockets. I’m not so happy to pay for that.

I'd initially written the above off as twitter bollocks. But seeing as it's Laura K, I'm not quite so sure.... (I still don't think it is true).

Yes . Disgusting waste of money . Track and trace was always pointless because anyone with an ounce of sense would never have downloaded it in the 1st place. I never did . I was asked to download it in March 2020 in a hotel just to buy a coffee. I bought a take out instead to avoid doing so

Anti semitism uncovered. Why is the MSM not running with this?

"A Conservative councillor has been unmasked as a supporter of a UK fascist organisation.

Tim Willis, a borough councillor in Worthing, is a supporter of the white nationalist group Patriotic Alternative, the anti-racism campaign group  HOPE not hate has revealed.

The Conservative Party have suspended the councillor over his support for the far right extremist group.

A spokesperson confirmed his suspension pending the outcome of an investigation.

Patriotic Alternative was founded in 2019 by Mark Collett, a former director of publicity for the British National Party

An investigation by HOPE not hate shows that Mr Wills endorsed the “white genocide” theory and claimed that there are others within his party "who are on side” with far-right nationalism."

Do you honestly think Boris gives a sh*t about you or any of the other little people in this country? You don’t really, do you?
Of course he does. He needs votes. It’s how it works.

Selling stories. It’s how politics works. Starmers 90 minutes, BoJos 50 minutes. It’s what they do. You expect truth? La la land.

The Mugs are those that think either leader doesn’t use spin. Of course they do. Starmer did too.

Come the next election the best story teller will win.

Won’t happen tho, will it? The interwebs are not big enough to list all the reasons why that charlatan should be thrown out of office ASAP, but he’ll win the next election, whenever it is, because the majority of voters are, and always have been, f*cking idiots.

Thought not.

I couldn’t honestly say. I can only speak from personal experience. What I can honestly say is that I don’t think my personal circumstances would have changed for better or worse under either.

That’s the problem with UK politics. Change government and spend the next 5 years reversing the changes they brought in. Each government has to deal with new problems .
