Five for Harmer AGAIN.
Quality of the TV stream is not the best, but it's good to watch. It'll be all over by tea time AGW.

Re: Essex CCC
Essex win.
Harmer takes 8 second innings wickets added to his 6 in the first innings gives him match figures of 14-131 which is a record best for Essex CCC.
Harmer and Porter in tandem since Harmer signed in 2017 now have a staggering 401 wickets in 3 seasons + 2 games.

Re: Essex CCC
Fantastic win and good to watch it on streaming. Essex openers need to step up a gear or two. In this competition dropped batting points can be the difference between just finishing top of the group and going on to the final.

Re: Essex CCC
What a great day's cricket - I'm loving this streaming. Essex have done exactly what I'd hoped today - saw off Sussex and left themselves with 196 runs to win and plenty of overs to get them in. Still very concerned about the batting bonus points and the lack of runs from the top order. Commentators were saying that it could cost Essex the chance to play in the final.

The streaming is great, together with the excellent commentaries - it was another extremely enjoyable game to watch. Over the last few years they have become effective at winning matches, but they really are riding their luck. The batting is weak and the bowling overly dependent on Porter and Harmer.
With Lawrence and Tendo back it was predictable, but disappointing, that Feroze Khushi was dropped. On the basis of his performances in the first two games, he should be kept in the side as he could blossom into a very fine batsman. Walter played very calmly in both innings but overall they are a weaker team now than the settled team of the last three or four years if Walter is viewed as a straight replacement for Ravi. Westley is a fine player but he has not recovered from the critical analysis of his technical during his brief spell in test cricket. But Browne is the player who most concerns me and I'd prefer to see Westley promoted to open in his place for a while, thus opening up a spot for Khushi in the middle order. Lawrence should be promoted to bat at three, which is where he might well bat for the test side before too much longer.
Resting Sam Cook was also an error as he is a much better partner and foil for Porter than either Beard or Quinn. It is a great pleasure to watch Harmer. He's a magnificent off-spinner.

Re: Essex CCC
It's on Youtube and you can also access the stream via the Essex CCC website "matchzone". All counties' games are similarly available just now. If you just want to listen to the commentaries (which can be great fun) then they're available via the BBC website (and are just about the only thing that justify the licence fee).
The next round of games start on Saturday coming (Essex will be at Arundel to play Hampshire, Middx play Sussex. Surrey play Kent).

Re: Essex CCC
What was so good about the day's play was the ebbing and flowing. One minute you're thinking Essex have got this sewn up, only for Sussex to get 40 runs out of Rawlins and then, at critical moments grab an Essex wicket. Then Beard pulls out a couple of unlikely fours and we're over the line. Really great stuff. Flying Hippo makes some great points. The Essex batting is very suspect - we can, as yesterday shows be good at chasing down a total to win, but our first innings performances, when bonus points are available have been poor for probably 3 seasons now. Our bowling has saved us and set up wins, but Westley, Browne, Chopra and, too often Sir A have simply not scored enough runs. The dropped batting points in the 2019 season could have cost us the championship if the weather hadn't been the winner at Taunton.

Re: Essex CCC
Play abandoned at Arundel Essex stranded on 249-3 will be top of the South East group tonight but third of the three group leaders and only the top two with the highest points will play in the final.
Had Essex scored one more run the bonus point at 250 would have taken us level with Derbyshire, better hope for good weather next week.

Re: Essex CCC
Really hoped for play this afternoon. Wondered if Essex would have batted for the 1 run, grabbed the 2nd batting point and then declared. Hoped then to bowl Hants out and grab the 3 bowling points. All hinges now on the last round of matches. This competition has been brilliant, in spite of August living up to its usual billing.

Still top. But lost ground on the top teams in the other two leagues. B****y weather.
Now over to the T20 for a couple of weeks.

Re: Essex CCC
As a Somerset fan I know how you Essex lot feel about the weather.
Having had Warks 9 down in the second innings last week and on the verge of an innings win the weather put pay to that
It almost cost them again today with Gloucestershire 8 down needing another 300 to win.
Luckily the outfield dried sufficiently to get those last two wickets .
A Somerset v Essex final would be fitting as they have been the most consistent on the red ball game over the last few years

Re: Essex CCC
Isn't that the point of home advantage. No worse than Middlesex / Yorkshire manipulating a result by forfeiting innings to deny Somerset the title in 2016.banqo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 6:34 pmAs long as we don't have to play on that dodgy Taunton wicket.LeytonstoneRed07 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 5:48 pm As a Somerset fan I know how you Essex lot feel about the weather.
