Meh. Not saying it's ideal but got to draw the line somewhere - so to speak - and they're applying VAR more efficiently and consistently than we do at home.
ITV pundits raising the key point at the VAR rep tonight, there's a huge discrepancy between what the vast majority of football fans see and want vs. what IFAB want

Don’t see the issue with any of the decisions last night.

If you’re offside, you’re offside, doesn’t have to be by a minimum amount. Strikers need to adapt the way they play, they haven’t as yet.

I thought the arm was far enough away from the body for it to be handball as well.

Yeah, agree that could easily have been given as a handball in the pre-VAR era.

I mean, since the ref didn't see it I'm not sure it would have been.

That's why I said "could". Had a ref seen it during pre-VAR, many would have given the handball.

He may have seen it.

There’s definitely been a tendency for refs to not give decision, safe in the knowledge VAR will pick it up.

I'm sure he didn't see it, as there really wasn't much to see. The ball accidentally grazes his arm, doesn't really alter course, and for that Germany are as good as awarded a goal. What a load of pish. Meanwhile, a couple of nights ago, it was explained to us that, although Ronaldo's jersey was practically pulled off his back in the penalty box, it wasn't a penalty as he wasn't about to receive the ball. And any way, the spokeswoman said, shirts get pulled in the penalty area all the time, so what can you do? Well, the ball accidentally strikes players arms in the box all the time (even although they all run around with their armed behind their backs most of the time) so why not adopt a similar approach to that?

The woman expert on ITV is infuriating. She’s there to justify the decisions made, whether they’re correct or not.

Defenders arm was away from his body. The ball hit his arm. As annoying as it is because of the circumstances, it’s a pen.

Re the block for the early German goal that was (correctly) ruled out for obstruction - how doea that exact same challenge go unpunished every single kick off?

Does it not need to be arm/hand to ball any more?

I suppose my main point is, why is shirt pulling in the box allowed, but accidental handball isn't? If a ref spots a player shirt pulling outside the box, a foul is awarded and the player is booked. Inside the box it isn't necessarily an offence apparently. Weird. Now, I know at corner kicks there is a whole load of shirt pulling going on and it would be very hard for a ref to single out one incident. So why not use VAR for that? First person VAR picks up pulling a shirt in the box and it's a penalty or free kick if its the attacker doing the fouling. Seems like it's a can of worms they don't want to get involved with, so just stick to the easy stuff like handball instead

Not sure why you’re conflating two separate issues?

I agree, any shirt pulling is an offence, wherever it takes place. Same with holding and wrestling. If refs awarded penalties, it would soon stop.

My point is, why are they so keen to see penalties awarded for handball ( usually accidental) but not so keen to award penalties for shirt pulling (100% deliberate)

She is very pedantic and just following the rules to the book.
I just wonder as to if she has got that much experience of actually playing football herself ?
These people who make these hand ball rules seem to be thinking that a natural position for hands and arms are that they should all be held close to the chest or even to run around with hands and arms held firmly behind your back.

Really annoying. Just explaining the basic rules of football. Probably useful for people like monkey boy but patronising to most

I can see England getting knocked out this evening . If Slovakia go off at a fast pace they could have us on the ropes .We need to find a higher gear or its over .

Presumably because of the sheer number of penalties that would be given.
