Stowaway wrote: Fri Oct 01, 2021 9:52 pm We still have a massive disconnect between the membership of the Labour Party and the Parliamentary Labour Party, ie, the MP’s. Far too many of the latter are just there pedalling the current tory lite line while the members are overwhelmingly far more socialist. That’s why SKSQC wants to change the party voting system so that it’s skewed in favour of the sitting MP’s rather than the general membership. Which, when you consider that the membership is well over 600,000 and the MP’s is 199, seems a bit odd. It’s almost like they want to change the system so that it’s harder for the membership to choose the leader. Isn’t that strange?
The membership voted for the changes at conference bud
Wrong.
That's odd because here's a national reporter amongst many others saying it's easier for the PLP to now exclude candidates based on the conference vote.

The best Labour can expect, is to make inroads into the Tory lead, so that the election after next, they give themselves a tiny squeak of a chance.

Apart from that, Labour isnt making inroads, and isnt hitting it off with the electorate.

I find myself agreeing with Max on everything he's posted in the last pages. Labour are finished the tories have well and truly buried them.

When you have Angela Raynor showing her true colours then the Labour Party are truly the nasty party in UK politics.

Finally the jelly fish says the next bond should be a women. How about jellyfish stand aside and let a women take over the Labour Party cos you've never had a women leader yet the tories have had two and both were elevated to the position of PM. So go and wobble off and put your own office in order first you yellow skinned jelly fish.

You're not getting it. Who cares about Labour Party. It is a failed institution which is rotten to the core.
Not true. The Labour Party is a strong worker for the common man, over the past few years they have forgotten about the majority of us ordinary people and focussed on the extremist elements who have the biggest gobs and loudest shouts. Starmer is trying to rectify that. But it may take time.
You've got one of the biggest gobs on here so you must be an extremist.
Not so big these days. Ever since I realised sensible discussion with some on this forum is pointless. 😂

The place to discuss Labours future in on the Labour thread. Spend less time worrying about what the Tories do and more time on what Labour should be doing.

The way forward is the way on New Labour. Blair knew it, Starmer understands. The way is clear, just need to convince more people. But given the damage of late, that will take time. But not impossible for sure.

I firmly believe oppositions don't win elections....governments lose them.

When people are fed up with the government, they vote in the opposition.

Blair was very lucky, by 1997, the Tories had been in government for 18 years, and the electorate were fed up with the mis management and the sleaze, which there was no end of around 96/97. If the government had been a few years into there term, and doing a fair job, Blair wouldnt have won, the people would have stuck to the incumbents.

I don’t doubt for a moment that’s it’s total bollocks dreamed up by the Heil, but to be fair there’s no shortage of right-wing class traitors amongst the MP’s that would fit comfortably in with the scum.

I very much doubt it. Starmer has moved Labour onto the Tory patch. For example: he now claims that Labour is the party for home owners (when home ownership has become less and less accessible for many people, even those that are 'hard working'). In his long speech there was no mention of those depending on benefit top ups as their wages are not sufficient to live on, no mention of those forced onto zero hours contracts, etc.
Also noticeable how Starmer has changed the colour of the background for all his media presentations: it is no longer Labour red but red mixed with blue = purplish. So why would any Labour MPs defect to the Tories?

Given the timing of the report of 'possible defections' (after Starmer's performance was generally well received and turned the Daily Mirror into his fanclub), such report of defections would put a doubt against Starmer that scores in favour of Tories ON THE DAY BEFORE THE OPENING OF THE TORY PARTY CONFERENCE. It gives the impression that Toryism is o.k., really.
