NYT reports Ismail Haniyeh was killed by a bomb smuggled into the Tehran guesthouse where he was staying. It was smuggled in two months ago and remained hidden there. The bomb was then detonated remotely once if was confirmed he was there. His bodyguard was also killed.

Apparently the bomb only blew up his room. It's interesting how precise the israeli army can be when they want to. Makes a mockery of their arguments for the destruction of schools/hospitals, etc in palestine.

I'm not trying to justify bombing of schools, but surely a remotely detonated bomb hidden in a room in a guesthouse is incomparable with launching rockets over a distance towards a target?

Anyway, at least this news keeps my "inside man" theory going.

Ismail Haniyeh? Wasmail Haniyeh, more like.

Yes, it's as if there's alternatives to launching rockets that the Israelis could use

A significant escalation in the middle east is looking increasingly likely. Flights into Lebanon now being cancelled, and embassies advising foreign nationals to scarper pronto.

Also reports that Russia has transported a load of Iskander rockets to Iran within the last 24 hours. These can be made ready to launch almost immediately.

And IIRG forces shooting down surveillance balloons in the last 30 minutes. That would be what we'd expect prior to precision rockets strikes into Israel.

I bet when the Border Force guys signed up they saw endless happy opportunities to oppress asylum seekers and migrants in the UK.

They must be well gutted to be placed in harms way in Beirut.

Nice one Keith Starver.

Russia is never going to openly support attacking Isreal.
These reports must be false

You are right to be suspicious of a c&p from the hot headed ginger stooge for the Xtreme centre.

Times change. The Russians and Iranians need each other more than ever.

Russia has based its attack on Ukraine on the ,need to destroy Nazism’. Not even Putin can delude his own nation into backing an attack on Israel.
Russia also has a shortage of weapons so the suggestion that they are sending missiles to Iran seems doubtful.

Israel almost certainly had someone on the ground in Iran assisting with the targeted strike. Which means that the Iranian regime is either complicit or incompetent (AKA the USA v Pakistan argument when they killed Bin Laden). But, if there's one thing the Iranian regime takes serious, it's internal security. So that suggests that someone in Iran sold this Hamas fella out.
Inside man theory still got legs.

I hope you're right. And would usually agree with you on this. But Russia owes a serious debt to the likes of Iran, N Korea, and China (obviously). And it will continue to rely on them to sustain its war in Ukraine. So refusing Iran a request such as supplying Iskanders may not be an option.

It's not that. Even Iran doesn't make much of a secret of how the likes of Hamas, Hezbollah et al are supplied and sponsored by it.

Whilst nothing is ever certain it would be astonishing if Putin tried to overturn the narrative of the Great Patriotic War upon which his present insanity rests.

It's unlikely that Russia will get directly involved, but that are supplying rockets to Iran which it now looks a certainty will be used to attack Israel.

Yeah, things are looking about as grim right now as on the eve of the Russian February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs went to Teheran today as a last attempt to talk about deescalation. He's just left saying that things are proper f*cked, and Jordan and other Gulf states are being warned not to intervene of they will be targeted by Iran too.

The U.K. Embassy in Beirut has just evacuated the families of staff members from Lebanon.
