Multiple reasons, one for example being they won't record a death until next of kin has been told and that can take a while or deaths in the community experience a lag in reporting
That doesn’t account for ‘zero’ deaths for two days (cue idiots saying ‘It’s over’) then suddenly 500.
When did that happen?

I stopped paying attention to the daily figure about a fortnight ago
It happened about a fortnight ago.

plus each for the last two days, something's wrong somewhere.
The scientific advisor at today's conference also said that the deaths aren't going down as quickly as they'd expected
They'll be happier today - 133 new UK deaths recorded, with 115 of those in England.

From the BBC...
Of the 115 new deaths announced on Thursday, 24 took place on 3 June, 49 were on 2 June and nine were on 1 June.

The figures also show 25 of the new deaths took place in May, seven occurred in April, while one was one 20 March
So nearly 30% of the deaths recorded today were from people who died before the month of June started.

So England alone has still had more deaths reported on one of our better days, than Australia has had during this entire Pandemic - 102.

That in a Country, despite its' size, with 85.9% of its 25.5 Million people living in urban areas.

I wonder why Johnson :clown is 'very proud' of his Governments' Coronavirus response exactly?

As it appears many companies are already planning thousands of redundancies, do you agree it's right that any furlough payments they've received for workers subsequently made redundant, should be paid back to the Govt./Tax-payer?

The scheme was meant to assist with job retention - not an exuse for employers to cut their costs, protect their profits and make their bloody shareholders happy!

Yep don't agree with you on much NO but this i do.

Maybe work along the lines of that if they're made redundant within 6 months of the furlough scheme ending they need to give the money back.

Have also heard of a few companies who have placed the staff on furlough and then asked them to continue working.

NuneatonO's wrote: Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:29 am ...is there any chance that you could finally answer my question about what the teaching Unions were doing wrong by trying to protect their members?

Still waiting for an answer from last week.

Many thanks.
Nothing wrong at all with teaching unions - or any union - protecting its members. They (unions) play an important role. I'm a member of one myself.

Some - not all - unions were being deliberately provocative if the headlines are to be believed: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/t ... t-22011545 ("Teaching union warns members 'not to engage' with plans to reopen schools amid lockdown")

And from the DT (I've not verified it):

The UK’s biggest teaching union, the National Education Union (NEU), has told its members that online lessons should be kept to “a minimum” and that they “cannot be expected to carry out routine marking or grading” of pupils’ work while schools are closed.

I've heard lots of stories about the impact of children not being able to attend school and see their school friends is having on their education and mental health - especially those who are poorer (eg no online access or laptops) and more vulnerable (eg disengaged parents) - and I do not think that the response of some unions (or perhaps even just the NEU) from a couple of weeks ago to "not engage" was helpful.

Hence my comment about why they or it (NEU) should be ignored.

Because of the BLM marches? Why would there be?

Also, a second peak of what? Infections? Hospital admissions? Deaths?

Just curious as to what you're basing your assertion on.

There is little reasonable doubt that gatherings of people risk the virus from spreading. The clues are there around the world. Lockdowns, limited numbers gathering, Social Distancing, face masks. Plus all that effort to make workplaces Covid safe as far as Possible

Massive gathering without due care increase the risk of a second peak. Which will happen.

Are the BLM marches being gently eased in as the next major government excuse for the continuing high death rate? Just trying to keep up with the litany of lies and deflection.

Shows what a strict lockdown and social compliance, as well as having a left-wing government, can achieve.

New Zealand has a "fit for purpose" Government. A capable, intelligent, decisive and compassionate entity. Simply put, the total opposite of what we have. We're paying for that difference with 10's of thousands of innocent lives.
