Re: Clueless Southgate
As well as abusing the lads that did miss, can we also lay into Sterling for not stepping up to take one?

He couldn’t handle the pressure, we have had better penalty takers at Breyer Stadium

More pressure on scoring this to send United through in the Champions League in the last minute, not the 3rd penalty of a shootout

Yes all correct but you cannot say what he did last night gives him kudos, was terrible.

Re: Clueless Southgate
It was a sh*t penalty but he tried to put it in the corner. Sancho’s and Saka’s were worse. Hip height either side of the keeper are a keeper’s dreamKimpon wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 9:50 amBiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 9:47 am

Re: Clueless Southgate
Rashford is one of the best penalty takers i've ever seen. He missed one, it happens. If he ran up and smashed it, without stuttering, he still might have missed. People are obsessed with meaningless things.

Re: Clueless Southgate
Exactly. Rashford does that run up all the time and scores nearly all his penalties. His pen last night really wasn’t that bad - he had the balls to go for the corner like he usually does and overcooked it slightly. Happens sometimes, but as an approach pays off more than picking a side and hoping the keeper dives the other way

Southgate had a plan.Millennial Snowflake wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 9:07 amWe Clearly Didn’t deliberately allow Italy back in the gameslacker wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 8:23 am Yep. Not sure why we went on the back-foot after a very decent opening spell, but it allowed the Italians to adjust and back in the game. And eventually they controlled it, whilst we stopped playing out from the back or running at their back line so even the scraps dried up. They weren’t stellar themselves, but deserved the pot more than us by the end.
Southgate made some errors last night: not least bringing on 2 players just to take pens so late. But some players also dipped or struggled: Sterling, Henderson, Mount, Saka we’re the most obvious ones, but crucially both wingbacks ended up ineffectual as attacking outlets.

And Southgates nose does wander to one side.

Yep. Jorginho missed yesterday after being described as 'mr.100%' as he walked up. He's known for the stuttering run up and he scores almost every time...but last night it didnt work.Millennial Snowflake wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:09 am Exactly. That’s where they went wrong last night. Should have got down and kneed their penalties. Re: Clueless Southgate
If you ever needed evidence that England fans were entitled and can never be happy/back their players. It's this. A generation of intelligent, socially conscious players, who are talented and got us to our first final in 55 years and they still get abused and mocked. Makes your proud to be English. Time to leave the knuckle draggers to it.

I agree I take the knee everyday. But i think it should be moved to durring the national anthem like it was ment in the 1st place.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:51 amJust shows the knee is still very much necessary, doesnt it.KVN wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:14 amThat would only get them more racist comments on social media, good thinking.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:10 am I reckon these boys all missed on purpose to troll the racist booers.

Really feel for Saka: he should not have been put in that situation. It required a more battle-hardened, ruthless player. It is something of a myth that creative players are efficient penalty-takers. Walker or Trippier, had they been on the pitch, would have been better options. What great pen from Maguire.

Re: Clueless Southgate
I don't blame any of the penalty takers who missed, none of them missed for purpose ffs, but Southgate showed why he's lacking as a football man.
Why on earth was a19 year old allowed to take such a crucial penalty? Why didn't a more experienced player step up, or be forced to step up by Southgate?
Before that some of Southgate decisions were baffling. Why on earth take off Rice, who was having a fantastic game, and replace him with Henderson?
Henderson offers nothing (and never has tbh ). A mystifying decision.
Why did England defend so deep early in the second half, allowing the Italians to attack, and bring more men further forward into danger areas?
IMO, Southgate managed the game poorly in a number of respects.
As a human being Southgate is a fine man with good values, and to be admired, but as a football manager..... Not for me I'm afraid.

Re: Clueless Southgate
Gotta love Grealish.
Southgate has taken the blame for Rashford, Sancho and Saka by saying that he chose the penalty takers and Grealish has reacted to those questioning why he didn’t take one by saying he told Southgate that he wanted to take one.
Nice teamwork and togetherness Jack
