It looks like Italy has some pretty ambitious ideas around how to deal with home heating CO2

Boris is going to do all of that, and more! But his mate needs a bit longer to set up his new companies first.

Hurrah for the free market, sorting out the wheat from the chaff. Only the strong survive.

It's playing havoc with fertiliser prices too.

At the start of this year there were 47 gas and electricity retailers* operating in the UK. As of today, just 25 remain.

*Note to StillSpike - I know, they're just billing companies.

CNG Energy, Omni Energy Limited, MA Energy Limited, Zebra Power Limited, Ampoweruk Ltd and Bluegreen Energy Services have all gone pop this week.

It looks like Bulb will be next.

Sure it’s bad but imagine how much worse it would be if this was all state run.

Thank the lord for the likes of EDF and the other big boys 👍

Latest estimates for UK retail electricity and gas price cap, are for increase of about 60% during the next biannual revision (announced in Feb for April bills). That's on top of the current increases. It's also on top of inflation, NI increases, etc.

apparently Russia are withholding gas flow.
prices could treble.
I said years ago relying on foreign country's, who by the way
own most of this country, was a recipe for disaster. [##]

Mine is £73 with Octopus and they've challenged me to use less gas.

One tip you all might find useful is to reduce the temperatures on your boiler

"If you have a combi boiler, we recommend setting your flow temperature to 50°C for hot water and 55°C for heating – it'll take a little longer to heat up, but the gas and CO2 savings make it more than worthwhile!

If you have a boiler and a hot water cylinder, we recommend setting the flow temperature on your boiler to a few degrees over 60°C for heating and hot water, and setting your hot water cylinder to 60°C also (you'll usually find the control for your cylinder ⅓ of the way up the tank)."

Pretty relieved that Bulb were placed into special administration rather than ceased trading. We have electricity only and dread to think what our bills would be if we had been moved to other standard tariffs.

Shocking. Just go on the variable rate (cap) for now seems to be the current advice.

I get tank calor gas delivered. £198 a month (used to be £205). Going up in the new year, but I've just had a delivery so next one will be about early March.

France is considering halting all energy exports, including to the UK, due to severe shortages with its nuclear generated supply. Russian supply has also dropped. It's sending wholesale prices so high that tankers on the way to Asia are turning around midway and heading to Europe instead. This could get interesting.

Anyone wondering what the affect of lots of the population being forced into "heat or eat" decisions may want to check out what is happening in Kazakhstan.
