Had someone come in once with an owl. It wasn't every year but the school was either William Mcguffie or William Morris (Walthamstow). can't remember which one, nearly fifty years ago.

The schools still go to these places, my daughter went a few years ago and my son went this or last year. The kids love it, they also have eagles there as well, which is the most beautiful and gracious bird in my mind there is.

Magpies are clearly the best birds.

My brother was a landscape Gardner and he used to say that. He also used to salute them and say alright captain.

Why did you pick them?

Owling Mad Murdock might be the one to ask on here, he sounds like he could be clued up on this.

unless it was some sort of graduation ritual before you moved up to the Girl Guides.

Funnily enough, there was a bloke in the pub with a tawny owl last night. Which was nice. He’d popped in for a pint (the bloke, not the owl) after taking him to see some cub scouts, apparently.

I don’t remember having a visit from a bird-man at school, but my daughter definitely did at her primary school - think it was a falcon, though.

No way an owl would've got out of my school in one piece.

Yeah I thought so too. It's the natural air of authority - you just don't get that at Charterhouse.
