Its not chicken and egg at all. How can people stop consuming and stay alive? Its about what they consume and the way they consume services/commodities/food etc.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:54 am Well yeah, i agree. As long as big business are making money out of natural resources then it will go on. I guess its chicken and egg. If people stop consuming then the economic system driving that fails.

Renewable energy etc. Its not magic, its science.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:59 amLet's keep on doing what we're doing and find out.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:48 amThis has been repeated for the last decade or so, but are we really?
Technology is the only way out of it and when 'it' comes along and is better than the alternatives people will use it and we'll all be saved, for a little while. The ever growing world population will be what really does it though.
What does saying technology is the only way out actually mean? As far as I can see technological advances are every bit as harmful to the planet as any that have gone before.
If population growth is the problem then surely education, womens emancipation wordlwide, birth control and the alleviation of poverty are all far more important than crossing our fingers and hoping technology will magically solve the problem.
Cant see women in the 3rd world who are having about 6 kids each being educated or having their lives changed anytime soon.

Re: Eco protest
My wife & son were on that train! They stopped at Canary Wharf as the protesters had got on top of the train. Passengers were able to continue the journey on another train so pointless really. As Greyhound has alluded to, seems odd they are protesting against trains when cars are the major polluters.

Well I reckon we are on to winner. When the Globe warms up a few more degrees, the carbon burning Asians & Yanks will have made their countries pretty uninhabitable ( over a fairly slow period of time ). We will we be in a sub-tropical zone. Albeit with high winds and a lot of rain. The polluters will slowly die out and Earth gets back to normal ( with the British in charge again ). Bring it on!

Re: Eco protest
Four protesters have now glued themselves to Jeremy Corbyn's fence, I wonder if he will mind?

Listening to LBC they said he came out of his house and just walked past and ignored them. Not so sure I would have ignored them.Lovejoy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2019 5:45 pm Four protesters have now glued themselves to Jeremy Corbyn's fence, I wonder if he will mind?
