So Djokovic's "exemption" is based on the fact he claims he was diagnosed with Covid on December 16, yet he was seen meeting senior government staff on the 17th without wearing a face covering...hmm

Nigel Farage criticises Australia for trying to control its borders. Oh the irony

Well, Talksport are now saying he has been arrested. Let's see.
Edit - this escalated quickly.

Its good to see the courts standing on the side of the law. Governments cannot just decide to do what it wants to do. This is a victory for law and freedom.

I could be wrong, but I thought it was because of a law about vaccination that he was denied entry

It’s a shame about the time difference, worse than the Super Bowl. Gonna have to stay up late tonight to watch this one.

All the prat had to do was 1)get vaccinated and 2)isolate when he had covid back in December.
What a waste of everyone’s time and money.

But that's not what he had to do was it? He had an exemption due to allegedly having covid, how robust that or those tests are must be questioned as he was seen out and about etc.
However, he has supplied the necessary proof to obtain an exception as required by the state and the tournament.
I'm sure the upcoming elections has nothing to do with this!

This makes him look like an even bigger dickhead tbh. Going about your business as usual and meeting people whilst knowingly having covid is indefensible. So be either faked the results to get an exemption, or has zero disregard for the health of others.
Noone comes out of this well, but he really is wrecking his legacy.

Yes if Australia starts banning world number 1 players what does it say for them hosting a grand slam tournamemt.

I think we will probably see another case of someone famous and influential knowingly committing a crime, and getting away with it with a minimal punishment, if any - because of their fame. Sure he might not get to play in the Aus Open, but after a few months it will all blow over and he'll be travelling the world winning everything in sight again.

I agree Djokovic is messing with the australian government.
It is a lose lose for them if they dont deport and ban him they look weak and their stance on entry to australia is shown up.
But at the risk of devaluing the australian open and the money and prestige of holding such an even.

Doubt he'll be able to compete at the French open. Getting vaccinated is a very easy solution for him to avoid all this nonsense.

What a tw*t.
Imagine trashing your own image like that. He should simply have withdrawn from the tournament as soon as it became clear that he'd not be able to get in without the vaccine, rather than stupidly trying to get around it. He could have gone for his next grand slam later in the year and all would have been fine. Now he's brought on trouble in Serbia and Spain, probably got banned from Australia for 3 years, and everyone thinks he's an idiot.

Can I just say that I thought he was an idiot prior to his latest outburst of what can only be described as imbecillic idiocy.
