Firstly, fans should wear masks upon entry and in communal areas: Approximately 5% compliance today
Secondly, All Orient staff will be masked up from ticketing to catering to stewards: About 40% compliance today
Either the club are serious about this and how they've fluked out of Vaccine passports, just, or it's just a gimmick
I would imagine the supporters club is the most likely place to catch this very mild virus and that is open with no restrictions.

Re: Club's new Covid policy
Making a rare “exiles” visit for the Swindon game, I intended to pop into the Supps Club before and after the match to say hi to whichever recognisable old faces where around. But as soon as I saw it was a rammed covid swamp I changed my mind and stayed outside on the street.Still wrong wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 10:14 pm I would imagine the supporters club is the most likely place to catch this very mild virus and that is open with no restrictions.

I suppose those that are worried about catching the virus, 'the 5%' wore masks to protect themselves. Understandably so and I would support their choice.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 4:59 pm As outlined in a statement recently aren't worth the paper they're written on

Those that aren't, 'the 95%' didn't, and that is of course their choice, and certainly in no way the club's fault. Their choosing to do this will not affect the 5%, since they are wearing masks to protect themselves.
Someone extremely senior at the club, but whom I will leave nameless, was in the supporters club after the game, without a mask, so we can assume he is also in the 95% bracket.
As for vaccine passports: clutching one of these doesn't stop the spread of the virus, nor indicate whether the bearer has the virus. Nor does it reduce the likelihood of the person Catching the virus, so there seems little point to these really.

This sort of rhetoric doesn’t help. People who wear masks aren’t necessarily worried. They’re just trying to do their bit for society and stop the virus from spreading.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 8:46 amI suppose those that are worried about catching the virus, 'the 5%' wore masks to protect themselves. The point was the club has imposed terms of entry for fans and conditions for their employees that weren't adhered to and indeed were widely and openly flouted

Re: Club's new Covid policy
Fair enough on the first point. Perhaps my choice of words was poor. I should add, that I Do wear a mask in shops etc., as suggested, but because I don't want to pass anything on to others in society, who might be vulnerable. My personal perspective is, having had covid, and two jabs, that I would now prefer to build up my own immunity at this juncture. Of course that is at my own risk, but I do wish to protect others who haven't taken that same decision; whilst I am in shops etc.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 9:14 amThis sort of rhetoric doesn’t help. No comment on the passport bit, that’s obviously just bollocks.
On the second point: please could you explain how:
1) having a vaccine passport stops the virus spreading?
2) indicates whether the bearer of the passport has the virus?
3) reduces the likelihood of the bearer catching the virus?
My understanding was, that having the passport, and hence the double jab, Only reduced the symptoms of the virus for the individual: it does not inhibit the spread in any way, nor reduce the chances of catching the virus, nor indicate whether the person holding the passport has the virus.
Hence my statement that generally, there is little point to these.
(Asking people to provide a test before entering a stadium/gig/event etc. Would help with this, but the bit of paper doesn't)
Happy to be corrected of course if my understanding is incorrect on these 3 points I originally laid out. Since you have described these 3 statements as 'bollocks', I am looking forward to learning something wholly worthwhile, and would/will be grateful for any insightful intervention to put me straight.
I am not necessarily saying I'm right, I am just presenting my understanding at this point.
Thanks!

Re: Club's new Covid policy
I think the statement " it does not inhibit the spread in any way, nor reduce the chances of catching the virus" is incorrect. The Vaccine reduces the effect of the virus but also reduces the chances of catching it and the chances of transmitting it - as I understand it. Therefore, being vaccinated is both a service to yourself but also to those with whom you come into contact.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 12:28 pm

Re: Club's new Covid policy
Spike/Ron/Max. Thank you.
I didn't pretend to be coming at this from a position of authority or knowledge; these were inherently question based statements I made.
My concern, is the slow drip-drip removal of our freedoms.
I imagine you will no doubt share my reticence in trusting anything Boris and this government do, since they have shown themselves to be mendacious in pretty much everything they attempt since election.
I am not anti-vax: having had 2, nor essentially anti-passports; *if they work in reducing the effects, suffering, and deaths of others...
Thank you for providing some clarity around this; it is appreciated gents.

Re: Club's new Covid policy
Many thanks for your post
I share your distrust of BJ and his government, but have to place my trust in the vast majority of scientists working on the problem. One of the difficulties in the situation is that politicians (and others) add their own filter to the light being shone on the issue - either attempting to judge what will be popular/unpopular or through some ideological reasons.
Such misinformation - thanks to people like that utter weapon Neil Oliver and others - is pretty widespread, so your thinking that the vaccine doesn't reduce transmission is not unique to you. It's a shame more is not done to get the right information out into the public domain rather than relying on people fact checking.
One of the big causes of misinformation / misunderstanding in the counter measures to this virus has been that things like masks and vaccinations have been couched in "self interest" terms - "it's up to you if you choose to protect yourself" - rather than all counter measures being seen as essentially social. I wear my mask to protect others around me (probably more than it would protect me - I'll rely on their masks to do that) - same with vaccinations. I guess that's down to the dominant ideology of the last 40 or so years - all about the self, rather than society. Sadly, if you leave things up to personal responsibility, you automatically encourage people to believe that their actions only affect themselves.

What spike said.
I’m not in the slightest bit concerned about Covid personally - I’m aware that’s probably pretty blasé seeing as I’m not as fit and healthy as I once was but that’s how I feel. The only reason I’ve been jabbed and wear a mask is to protect others. That’s the kind of guy I am.

Re: Club's new Covid policy
From a footballing perspective the players don't care if they or anyone else gets it, vax levels amongst them are one of the lowest cohorts in the country. It's not surprising that fans are swayed by this.
I keep saying it's the leaders that have let you down rather than the people. Many are too thick to think for themselves, but don't like to be told what to do, so need to be convinced it was their idea in the first place. It takes a special kind of skill to do this, which is glaringly lacking amongst leaders across all levels in the UK.
