There's always been something about Crawley doing a number on us for over a decade, they're a nasty, niggly side we don't have the answer to

This is why we needed more depth at the start of the season. You don't get problems in September but over the Xmas period those extra 3-4 players would've made a big difference. Less said about the waste of wage on Smyth and Reilly the better.
We need more depth but the plan has always been to add in Jan. which I agree with. What’s the point in having back ups and paying them to sit on the bench when you can access what you need in jan?

Although in the short term I’d imagine our rb cover is
Clay but he’s in demand in the middle since pratley got sent off. We have enough defenders though, we’ll be alright til Jan.

Not for the first time this season. Good players should want to be good players all the time. Do you know how profound that is. We started like we only had to turn up to win. Nobody has a god given right to win a game especially in this tinpot league. Tell you what, with James out we won’t be winning many more for a while now either. If we get in the play offs and it’s a very big if, we will win the semi final 6-0 on aggregate and lose 1-0 in the final. That’s just us right now I am afraid.

Results around us haven't been too disastrous - FGR and Swindon, Exeter and Port Vale. Different next week

A very disappointing day, mind boggling how we went from Tuesdays performance to this today.
A missed opportunity as a win would have taken us to within a point of the top 3.
The bottom line is that you cannot lose at home to strugglers & then expect to get in the top 3 or even top 7. A very poor result. It's really important that we now get a few wins quickly otherwise, under the 3 point system, we will find ourselves in mid table & well off the pace.

Missed Beckles and then James a lot today. You get poor performances but the real concern is the lack of depth. We had no options to change things, no replacement for James and Thomson coming in for Beckles meant we weren't bringing it out from the back well.

Kemp is not good enough for the no.10, that is a consistent issue week to week. We need a new RB, a new central midfielder and someone to play behind the strikers in January.

What an absolute waste of a wage Smyth and Reilly have been. Barely a game between them nearly halfway into a season and will be on first team wages. May be the difference between a play off spot and middle table that.

League two is no place for little, somewhat skilful, blokes playing between the lines unless you are exceptional. Kemp is not exceptional. Centre halves just step forward and clatter him. If they don’t get him, their mates in the middle will. Thompson looked so slow. Headers were going all over the place. Smith, and not for the first time this season looked disinterested. If it doesn’t go for him early he hides especially if the oppo have defenders that match his physicality. A flat track bully. Centre of midfield is a creativity free zone. We are really going to struggle to create anything if James is out longer term unless we really go for it in jan window.

Kemp is too lightweight and is easily knocked off the ball, he can’t play that killer through ball either. Not sure what he really does

To provide quality competition in key areas. When Pratley been playing poorly there's no one to take his place. One injury to James today and the whole team shape is screwed and we end up with 4 CBs on the pitch.

It's one thing to add a couple of reinforcements in Jan but to start the season 4 players down, then sign 2 crocks has made the job far harder than it needed to be. Only have to listen to Gallen's comments on Smyth and Reilly to see what he thinks of them in particular.

The lack of squad depth plus the obsession with seeing academy players as the saviour is what will cost us this season if we don't go up.

Pratley point is null considering he was literally dropped a few weeks ago.

Agree that with a light squad we shouldn’t have been signing players with injury problems. Omotoye is a head scratcher too.

But we are a league two club. You just can’t have 2 quality players for each position. You therefore need to take risks and to use academy players (which we haven’t overdone imo).

But I’m convinced this squad was put together to get us from august to jan, to stay in touch and then to make some quality additions at the right time, when other clubs around us might not be able to. Time will tell but I think we’ll see some big additions. I just hope it isn’t like usual when it’s all done in the last week of jan.
