It’s been reported in the FT that China fired a hypersonic weapon around the whole globe in low earth orbit before hitting its target on earth. It’s apparently able to avoid all of the usa’s defence systems namely anti missile stations. Very worrying.

Both China & The USA have enough weapons to destroy the world hundreds of times over. It only needs one hasty decision to wipe us all out

Nothing to really worry about then
As if it doesnt happen the world will just carry on
If it does happen we will all be wiped out with out knowing about it &
the world will get some peace from the human race for a long long time .

2019 military budget
china $ 217 billion
u.s.a $726 billion .
Biden, in what may have been one of his 'senior' moments, appears to have decided the US has a defence treaty with Taiwan. That's a big statement and raises the stakes considerably for China. It also suggests we're inching closer to formal recognition, which will see the CCP go apoplectic.

" While Washington is required by law to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself, it has long followed a policy of "strategic ambiguity" on whether it would intervene militarily to protect Taiwan in the event of a Chinese attack.".
Aah, but it's not about the budget, rather the stealth infiltration of other countries' economies. China is an extremely patient beast and will stand quietly in the wings whilst others fall then choose its moment. Luckily, I'll be dust by then.

that answer was about u.s comparison budgets on armed defence , nothing to do with current developments re MI5 . The u.s already has what this story quotes. strange you drag it up today .

I said 'economies'. Countries will become increasingly beholden to Chinese investment / debt and will have to forfeit their core revenue generators to outside control eg oil, coal, food production, precious metals (for electric car batteries) and even living space. It ain't gonna be pretty.

Interesting programme on R4 today about a motorway being being in Montenegro by a Chinese state company. When the government can’t keep up the payments on the loan (also from a Chinese bank) then the Chinese govt will just ask for land or whatever in compensation. They’ve done it before in Sri Lanka, and now the Chinese govt have a state-owned port way outside their own country. Very underhand, clever and worrying.

Isn't this old-ish news? I'm not suggesting it's trivial and should be ignored, but I wonder why it's suddenly resurfaced today?
I’ve heard the word ‘Communist’ on the news today more than the build up to the 2019 GE.

Last night the Chinese embassy said that the naming of Lee by MI5 was part of a campaign of “smearing and intimidation against the Chinese community in the UK”.
A spokeswoman said: “China always adheres to the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs."
