Probably during lockdown
Demo was Saturday, there's no lockdown in Southend on mudB.whitehouse+10more wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 2:04 pmProbably during lockdown![]()
Southend have been a basket case for years. How many times have they been hauled up for unpaid tax now? I can see them going under properly this time, and fans starting them up again
Also includes a 107 bed hotel, and residential blocks in the corners of 182 homes (sound familiar>?)
I’ve no doubt the research has been done on the hotel potential. And as I understand it we have a severe shortage of housing. And what’s wrong with Councils getting Council tax. I’m sure they publish how the money is spent. More money to help the less fortunate.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 9:32 amAlso includes a 107 bed hotel, and residential blocks in the corners of 182 homes (sound familiar>?)
Additionally, another 1,400 homes to be built on site.
I live about 2 miles from the proposed site. I'm not sure Southend needs another hotel, since the plethora that do exist appear to be half-empty, and why you'd wish to spend the night in a former field, near a dual-carriageway, but essentially in the middle of not much, is anyone's guess.
Ditto the homes. Infrastructure doesn't really exist round there: no shopping unless you're a car driver. No schools/pharmacy etc etc, and 1,400 homes equals no doubt at least 3,000 people.
Wouldn't surprise me if SUFC were just a pawn in a game between Martin and the Council, who just want the homes built to trouser the Council Tax. It also wouldn't surprise me particularly if it all got built barring the football stadium, and that would be the end of SUFC.
When developments like these are built they have to add infrastructure into the plan (schools, medical centres, etc). I'm sure that sort of stuff is built in.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 9:32 amAlso includes a 107 bed hotel, and residential blocks in the corners of 182 homes (sound familiar>?)

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, this is not directly linked to SUFC, the charge relates to 2 land deals.
We had a significant development a few miles from where I live. Provision for a new junior school, medical centre and community hall all formed part of the development. Also included were new roads to link the site to the existing road network. That it was said Fossetts Farm is close to a dual Carriageway is evidence of links and access. Bus routes can be added.LittleMate wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 11:05 amWhen developments like these are built they have to add infrastructure into the plan (schools, medical centres, etc). We have a golf course that they are trying to turn into 800 properties near us, but has been turned down a couple of times. Think its coming round for its 3rd attempt - and its all to do with levels of infrastructure and impact on the local environment (which in a small community is where its falling down). They will get it through eventually. Don't know if its a good or bad thing, but its called progress.Dohnut wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 11:18 amWe had a significant development a few miles from where I live. The development near me has been ongoing now for a few years, one part completed and sold, the next phase then starts. The development is a blend of 2/3/4 bedroom houses, detached, semi and terraced. Also includes are Apartments. And links to the A303 then the Motorway network.
Surprising to see you side with a dodgy owner…Dohnut wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 10:58 amI’ve no doubt the research has been done on the hotel potential. I’ve little doubt the stadium is being used as leverage with the council. The ground forms part of the overall scheme at Fosetts Farm and the development of Roots Hall. Which is part of the whole. Draft plans exist for the redevelopment of that area.
And whilst Ron Martin will make money, so will the thousands of people involved in the planning and building of the sites. Much needed work for the working man, who will of course pay tax and spend to help the local economy.
Building homes is not a dirty word, nor is building a new football ground. The infrastructure will have been worked through as part of the planning process and can be developed.
And the working man too but not the working woman. I suspect Doh thinks they shouldn't be within a hundred miles of the construction industry.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 7:25 pmSurprising to see you side with a dodgy owner…Dohnut wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 10:58 amI’ve no doubt the research has been done on the hotel potential.
